Apologies for the long message in advance.
About 15 years ago (in my 30s) I had some very weird neurological episodes.. lost my balance, left sided weakness and speech would slur. Had loads of tests (for MS etc) nothing diagnosed, and frankly wasn't treated very well ' might be functional neurological disorder' but docs very dismissive . It was horrible and I decided to just get on with life as best as possible.
Gradually the balance stuff improved with occasional episodes but was left with weird sensations on the left.. horrible restless legs at night..just that side. Gabapentin helped control it somewhat.
Roll forward to a few months ago and the restless legs has become massive myoclonic jerks at night which are absolutely uncontrollable and prevent me from sleeping... and when I finally do sleep they wake me up.Funny sensations that aren't quite full cramps but end with odd pain sensations in my toes and my left arm is similar but not as bad. The spasms at night are making me dread bedtime as I'm so tired and getting no relief.
Otherwise I'm in decent shape for my 50s...slim, active (have a dog and do boxing for fitness) except for pretty severe lower back pain which I attribute to m job in special ed with small children! I recently had a blood test for some gut issues but otherwise haven't seen a GP for years, and nothing unusual was picked up.
Can I go back and beg to see a neurologist again after all this time? I'm SURE it's the same problem because the symptoms never truly went away but I'm scared of being dismissed as some mad menopausal woman when I'm not..something is wrong!
