Bad tailbone pain after fall

Hey guys. I slipped in the bathroom yesterday morning and fell on my butt really hard. I didn’t have any pain straight away but yesterday evening the pain started and it’s been really bad. Today it’s even worse and it’s so so so bad. It doesn’t hurt that much when I’m walking, but it hurts so bad when I sit or when I get up, it literally takes me forever to get up. I’m thinking it’s not fractured if I’m okay when I’m walking but this is honestly the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. It worse than my c section pain. I’ve been taking ibuprofen but it’s not been doing anything really. Any advice on what I can do to help with the pain? 😭

It’s worse than it was yesterday, and I have a 15 month old DS who wants me all the time. It hurts so bad when I try to pick him up I don’t know what to do. I haven’t been to the GP, I asked them for an appointment but the earliest one they had was next week! I did think to go to A&E but I guess they won’t be able to do much for me? Should I go, do you guys think?

That's your coccyx. I bashed mine when I was a teenager and it was really quite painful for the best part of two years.

Nandosplease · 07/02/2024 16:12

I did this about 5 years ago, it is absolutely horrendous.

I went to the Dr and was told that it's either bruised or fractured but that it didn't really make a difference as they couldn't do anything either way. For this reason they don't xray either.

They said it'll either feel better in about 3 weeks in which case it's a bruise or 3 months in which case it's a fracture. It was a fracture 😩

You can buy special cushions to sit of which have a gap so the painful part doesn't touch a seat, I didn't know this at the time and used one of those neck pillows you use on planes! But it's not just sitting, it's everything. I really understand and hope very much it's a bruise in your case! 💐

You've never injured your coxxyx, have you? Because if you had, you wouldn't be so flippant.

Have injured my coccyx many times, yes it is very painful, no there is no need to go to A and E. it will get better, take painkillers/use ice/comfy cushions.

Wimpeyspread · 07/02/2024 16:16

I did this on New Year’s Eve - took about 3 weeks to stop hurting!

usedtobeasizeten · 07/02/2024 16:25

Done this falling down stairs! Yes, it’s torture! Sitting down then standing up is very painful. I feel your pain OP…sadly, you really just have to go with it. I do sympathise though.

My daughter did this falling off a pony. It was extremely painful but got better very quickly
