I'm panicking something is wrong with me..

Thursday and Friday off last week I felt really sick. I wasn't, I just felt it. I thought that's a bit strange but didn't think too much into it.

Saturday I started with a headache, which I never get. I had headache and felt out of sorts Saturday and Sunday and had a bit of an upset stomach.

Monday I felt really sick, very dizzy, had numbness on the left side of my body and the headache was awful. I went to the docs and they did a neurological exam which they said apart from some weakness in my left leg was normal. Gave me painkillers and said it might be the start of something but they're not sure what and to come back if it gets worse.

I've still got this headache, nausea, dizziness and weakness. I've now absolutely terrified myself it's a brain tumour.

Has anyone else had anything like this and it's been a virus, or stress?

It does sound like a virus but because you are scared your symptoms are getting worse there will be a lot of cortisol floating around your body when fear kicks in, try and relax in front of a feel good tv programme with a herbal tea and try to calm yourself, it’s highly unlikely to be a brain tumour with your symptoms, give it a few days and try not to stress.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/02/2024 13:30

Why do you think it's anything but a virus? You've seen a GP, take pain killers and rest and you'll feel better soon I'm sure, if you get worse then ring 111.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/02/2024 13:31

I know two people with brain tumours and they had no symptoms at all, they were picked up at eye tests.

Georgie743 · 07/02/2024 13:32

Sounds like perhaps you had a migraine?

mylittlepony1988 · 07/02/2024 13:35

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor the GP suggested an eye test, I'll get one booked now. Thats reassuring.

I'm not sure it just doesn't seem to feel like a virus as I never really get dizziness or headaches, and it's the pins and needles/weakness on my left hand/foot/side of face that's scaring me. The painkillers aren't really touching the headache.

I've just scared myself it's something sinister, maybe as my uncle has a brain tumour and has mobility issues and headaches before diagnosis (he's just gone into a hospice) maybe that's on my mind and I'm projecting it.

@Georgie743 that's what I wondered as I have been quite stressed lately I never get enough sleep or drink enough either. I always imagine migraines not to last that long though.. this is day 4 of headache. And the gp didn't seem convinced it followed a pattern of a migraine. Well they didn't really say what they thought it was or wasn't x

Have you done a Covid test? I got very dizzy with it and headache.

ISeeTrees · 07/02/2024 14:00

An eye test is a good idea regardless, but it sounds very much like the way my migraines present. They tend to link in with my cycle so it might be worth keeping a diary.
They generally last a few days, 5 if it's a bad one, with the last day feeling a bit hungover for want of a better description. Always start with bad nausea/a weird taste in my mouth.

I'm suffering from this currently but I keep being sick too. I ended up in A&E who did bloods and send me home. I'm so worried. I had the headache, pins and needles, but I'm constantly been sick as soon as I eat. If bloods are normal, does that mean everything is ok? I suffer from health anxiety.

Summerscoming23 · 07/02/2024 20:04

I had something similar turned out to be a sinus infection...my doctor told me to take sudafed, the one over the counter. I keep getting visual migraines now too though...

mylittlepony1988 · 08/02/2024 18:39

Thanks everyone. It's still really bad. I felt slightly better last night then woke up this morning and the headache and dizziness was back. So I've still got the numbness on my left side, the constant headache and dizziness and nausea. I don't know what to do.. ride it out, a&e, back to the GP or what. I'm worrying myself so much

111?

MassiveOvaryaction · 08/02/2024 22:17

@mylittlepony1988 I had that - mine was diagnosed as hemiplegic migraine. Was terrified the first time it happened.

Did your GP give you advice on what to do if it got worse/didn't improve?

moreorangeplease · 09/02/2024 12:37

@MassiveOvaryaction how long did it last for? I'm currently on day 5 of the worst of the symptoms but the nausea and headache started almost a week ago.

They just said to come back if it gets worse. X

Sorry, just seen this. The headache lessened after a few days iirc. The random dizziness continued for longer but was manageable with prochlorperazine (like sea sickness meds). The numbness down one side lasted 6 weeks or so and during that time GP referred me to neurology. It was pre-covid times so actually didn't take long to be seen by neurology.

I've been on amitriptyline since and if it has happened it's been no more than a day or two.
