What is this horrible bug?

Achy limbs, shivery, can't get warm. Horrible cough and congested breathing.
My skin hurts. It hurts when my little boy tries to hug me, it hurts to climb the stairs or to bend to empty the dishwasher.
I can't even sleep because everything aches.
What is it?! Does anyone else have this? Flu? Covid? How long does it last and do I need to go to the doctor?

Sounds like flu. I ended up I hospital with it

CautiousOptimist · 07/02/2024 08:05

Oh, really sorry to hear it.
What symptoms led you to go to hospital?
Are you fully recovered now?

I got a debilitating headache caused by flu infection, I felt very unwell and developed viral meningitis as result. Heart was racing out of control and high temp. No, not better yet, treated overnight and sent home with further antibiotics for a week.

Wow, poor you. Really hope you're on the mend soon.
I was wondering about flu, thanks for posting

I'm just at the end of this. GP told me it was flu. Shivery/hot/cold,temperature rose to 41.

No appetite. Terrible cough. I have never felt so ill. So much for having the flu jab.

Hope you feel better soon.

CautiousOptimist · 07/02/2024 12:19

@BG2015 It's horrible! How long did it last for you? And what led you to get the GP appt, that very high temp?

I’ve got that at the moment. It’s Covid.

FancyJapflack · 07/02/2024 12:23

To expand a bit - the aches/pains are the worst bit (can’t sleep) although the cough comes a close second. Sore throat. Shivers/fever. Upset tum yesterday.

CautiousOptimist · 07/02/2024 12:33

@FancyJapflack
Yes all of that except for the tummy
I did wonder, have you done a test? I'm not sure I've even got any tests, might just stay away from as many people as possible - which I would feeling rough anyway.

I'm just over it. It's the flu.

I tested negative repeatedly for Covid, went to the doctor twice I was so unwell, and he said it was the flu. I'm vaccinated for both the flu and covid, and so is my family, but we all came down with it, and it took the kids 1 week to recover and me just a little over 2 weeks.

This is the first time I've been vaccinated for the flu and still caught it, though. I wonder if the vaccination isn't as robust this year?

Yes I tested yesterday. Strong positive within about 90 seconds. It’s the first time I’ve had a positive test. It’s GRIM.

AmethystSparkles · 07/02/2024 14:25

I’ve been in bed for much of the day for over two weeks now but I don’t really have the cough. I’ve had night sweats, dizziness, weak legs, headaches, fatigue, aches, stomach upset (nausea, wind and gerd flare-up), earache and tinnitus. I’ve had a few days where I’ve felt better, overdone things and been ill again the following day.

BG2015 · 07/02/2024 15:35

I did covid tests and they were negative.

I did a sputum test which I submitted last Wednesday. It's just come back that I have an infection and now got antibiotics. Patients Know Best record says it's 'Haemophilus influenzae' -flu

I started feeling ill Saturday morning and was in bed by Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday - didn't move. The aching was awful.

By Tuesday I was coughing up green mucous so took myself to the drs as I'm a severe asthmatic. GP said my chest was clear and only agreed to do the sputum to put my mind at rest.

It's only today, 11 days later that I'm actually feeling better.

CautiousOptimist · 07/02/2024 15:37

@AmethystSparkles That sounds truly awful, really hope you turn a corner soon.

@BG2015 Sounds like you've been through the mill :-(

Do the £20 test , if there was £20 in your front garden floating around would you be able to go and get it. If the answer is yes you would get it then you haven’t got flu but a bad cold/ something else if you answer no then you most likely have flu! 😂

I am relieved to find this thread. I have been ill for 7 days and really fed up and just want to feel better but feel so nauseous this evening now and my appetite is rubbish. Last week it was aches, night sweats, extremely lethargic. Work must be so fed up with me but I have zero energy to do anything. Like someone else said, every time I push myself to do things I just feel terrible again and end up in bed.
