Broken contact lens in eye

I wear contact lenses and one got stuck under my eyelid last night. I managed to get it out but in pieces and I think I’ve scratched my eye as vision is slightly wonky. No pain though. Will phone opticians first thing in the morning. Just wondered if anyone else had done this.

Yes. Rinse your eye with tepid water and get some rest. If it is very sore tomorrow phone the optician. If it is painful, it will hurt like hell, so go to Eye A&E.

If your optician is the high street one beginning with S, don't bother with them.

I have had stray bits of contact lens in my eye and have scratched my iris badly courtesy of DCat. That was agony.

I've had contacts that have ripped more than once. I think as long as you have got all the fragments out you are fine. It can be very difficult to get a fragment out. I've found rinsing with one of those eye baths is the best way to get a stubborn one out.

Done it loads pull your eyelid down over your bottom eyelid see if that does it

Thank you everyone, have got the bits out but need to go and check why my vision isn’t right.

@SophieJo , don't wear a lens in that eye for a couple of days.

Don't put tap water in your eye due to the risk of acanthamoeba infection.
