Pre diabetis itching

Has anyone experienced this?
Been diagnosed as pre diabetic and I have chronic itching. Nothing seems to help. I've tried all the emollient's etc plus steroid cream and I'm still itching!
Seems to suddenly get worse at 4am, it wakes me up but I'm slightly itchy all the time. There's no rash or anything to show on skin (apart from claw marks where I've been scratching)
GP is useless. Just keeps giving me more cream.

Have you tried eliminating sugar from your diet? Even without the pre diabetes I would have suggested this. It worked for me.

@DrNo007 oh really? I have stopped adding sugar to anything. Would you suggest cutting out any foods that contain sugar? I would imagine most things do in one form or another?

I had this, terrible itching used to make myself bleed. At the same time pre diabetes was picked up in a blood test. I reduced my carbs drastically, blood sugar normalised and itching went completely.

@Happydays321 how interesting. Was it just carbs you cut out?

Yes, as it was carbs that were putting up my blood sugar. My mum was a type 2 diabetic and I borrowed her tester to see which foods were putting up my blood sugar, I tested before my first mouthful and 2 hours after. Any carbs, even the so called healthy carbs like porridge and lentils, rocketed my blood sugar. My blood sugar quickly normalised and the itching went, it was such a relief,I used to itch till my legs bled. I generally felt much better too.

Good advice here from PPs. OP don’t forget bought cakes, biccies, choc etc. I know it sounds obvious but my cousin fell foul of just not realising how much sugar she was eating in these forms.

@DrNo007 thank you. Sooo hard to resist though 😢
