Can children be intolerant of things like pepper? TMI so don't click if you're squeamish!

Ds woke at about 3am, and was sick a couple of times - not much came up but there was some red pepper from the dinner we had yesterday.
I remembered last time he was sick in the night (except when he had that nasty bug, and was really actually ill) it was also after eating a lot of red pepper.

I'm not sure if it is just a coincidence or if his little tummy really doesn't get on well with the stuff, can't digest it and has to chuck it back up iyswim?

I am hoping it is not another virus as I am a bit phobic myself

He doesn't seem ill or hot or anything. Sleeping again now.

I think it is possible to be intolerant to red peppers. I'm sure they excerbate my IBS.

belgo · 21/03/2008 07:24

it might be the peel that's causing the problem - maybe peel them first?

Flight · 21/03/2008 07:34

Ah, really? Thankyou. Yes it could be the peel. It just seems a bit bizarre that he could be sensitive to one thing like that! It is a member of the nightshade family, apparently...so he is also likely to be allergic to the other elements of that.

I'm not sure if it's an allergy as such, more of an intolerance

Flight · 21/03/2008 08:43

Well it looks like I was being hopeful - he woke up and threw up again. Here we go!

Lockdown in the flight household. Nobody is going out and hooray, my mother can't visit

yes that sounds more like a tummy bug! Hope he gets well soon!

Flight · 21/03/2008 10:06

Oh thankyou

I am feeling iffy now. That was to be expected. It could be psychosomatic..

Peppers are a fairly common allergy
