Hip bursitis in specific area?

AyoadesChinDimple · 28/01/2024 21:42

I started with hip pain over 4 weeks ago. Saw GP after 2 weeks as I'm at risk of osteoporosis and was sent for an xray which was clear.
So, 2 almost 3 weeks on the pain is no better and sometimes worse. GP said to book in with a physio if it carried on, which I'll do.
But my question is, those who have been diagnosed with bursitis, can you pinpoint the pain to one specific area, and if pressed, does this make the pain much worse? I'm reading conflicting info on it.
I haven't had an indication of what's causing my pain, so I'm just trying to figure it out
thanks

Bursitis in left hip for several years now. Ball like swelling on the hip joint that can be hot to touch.

Had three steroid injections which do help but not allowed anymore. There is a physio protocol that can be followed but I have been in a waiting list for 10 months 🙄

Yes the pain is very specific- like I could place a coin on the epicentre of pain. Hurts to be pressed on.

Physio helped enormously with mine. Mine was caused by hypermobility as my left hip had moved out very slightly. All back where it should be and pain free.

And yes, one specific area was tender and pain radiated to my groin.

I’ve had hip bursitis a couple of times - diagnosed once by a physio, and the pain is quite distinctive, feeling like it comes from right inside the hip bone/ joint. But I think hip tendonitis feels quite similar.

i think flare-ups are v common in winter because of cold, damp, low air pressure, etc. Mine responded well to heat pads and vitamin D. Physio did a limited amount.

Yes, specific area, it radiated from a central point. It hurt to be pressed. Although some pressure relieved it a bit - I spent a week sitting with my bum half on a lever arch file (!) at one point so I could actually sit down without being in agony.

I get elbow bursitis, it swells up like a golf ball.
Started with hip pain last year and thought it was osteoarthritis (I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis as well). The pain is on the outside of the hip and occasionally in the groin.

When I mentioned it to my Rheumatologist he said it was hip bursitis as my scans showed no issue with the hip. He offered me a steroid injection but I declined for now.
Then I saw a physio who said it wasn't bursitis at all as in the wrong place. She gave me exercises which seem to be helpful.
