My GP won't refer me because of the waiting list - what to do?

Long history of migraine. Started getting other symptoms in November. Because my vision (for me) is fine no one will do anything.

I've tried various medications that don't work or give unpleasant side effects (I had to beg a few GPs to come off one where the side effects included hearing loss and issues with my memory) and the response yesterday and Wednesday was to suggest 2 that do absolutely nothing.

I've asked for an MRI scan (I have 2 complex brain issues which are being ignored as the reason for the constant pressure and pain) and have been told no. I've also been refused a referral back to neurology because of the waiting list (which I'm well aware of - 2 years and waiting to see a neuro opthalmologist)

I'm now unsure what to do? I'm in constant pain, I've been tired (sleeping 8 hours a night) since this started on Monday.

There are no other preventatives I'm allowed because of my asthma. Either that or they don't work. None of the triptans I've been given work.

I get nerve blocks every 3 months. But I'm still in a lot of pain.

I’d insist and if they still said no, I’d change GPs.

I’d also like to add to put it in writing. I had a GP refuse a referral so I wrote a letter asking for one and I got it.

2 years for a routine bottom of the pile referral yes.

I suspect your GP doesn’t think it warrants a referral and is using the waiting list as an excuse because he or she doesn’t want a snotty letter from the triaging consultant

I have seen some absolutely blistering letters from consultants to GPs for rubbish referrals. One asking the GP if he had even been to medical school!!

How deeply unpleasant of them.
