I crashed off my bicycle 11 months ago and broke my hip. I had a titanium rod put in my femur. I am feeling very despondent that I am still not back to normal. I am 63 but was very fit. I can walk 5 miles albeit with a limp but struggle on hills and I still can’t walk upstairs with alternating legs, I do the thing where I go up with my good leg and follow with my bad, unless I can lean on a handrail. I have been cycling short distances (20 miles) slowly, but my leg aches and I don’t seem to be making any further progress. I don’t have the strength in my injured leg and my balance and agility is not good. When I get up after sitting I can hardly move for a while. Sometimes I feel that my leg will give way under me. My hip still hurts when I lie on it.
I had NHS physio initially and then used a private physio and now I go to a gym for personal training twice a week. I swim and go to yoga. I use a massage gun. I just don’t know what else to do and I wonder if I will ever be able to walk and cycle with my friends again. Friends try to be encouraging and tell me that I am doing well but online info suggests that full recovery takes 6 months to a year so actually I am not.
It’s very difficult to ascertain what to expect. Does anyone else have experience that they can share with me?
