At what point do you need to see a dr with suspected tonsillitis? I have a lovely sore throat covered in white spots, a temperature,
Headache and just generally feel rubbish. How do you tell if it's viral or bacterial as I don't want to waste gps time if they'll just tell me to rest, take paracetamol etc

If the tonsils are covered in pus (sounds like they are), it's generally bacterial in my experience and in need of antibiotics. That red/sore and it's likely just viral and will run its course.

Yes it's both sides are covered in pus, I'll contact the gp in the morning. Thank you!

Good luck and hope you feel better soon. I had an awful bout of bacterial tonsillitis last year and it took two lots of antibiotics to shift. Nasty stuff. You have my sympathies!

Thank you - GP has prescribed antibiotics so hoping I'll feel better soon

Do you mind me asking @sundayneptune what antibiotics did you have and did it work? I’m in the same boat at the moment unfortunately.
