Baby and Lactulose

Hello,

My little boy has been prescribed lactulose by the paediatrician - he’s only 2 weeks old.

Would we add the lactulose to his milk or try and give it in the syringe? (He’s only having 1ml)

thank you

I give my DD 2.5ml in a calpol syringe as recommended by the GP. My DD is 9 months though. (On it since 6 months)

May I ask how long this takes to have an effect? I was prescribed it yesterday for my 6 month old

Definitely give it in a syringe 🙂

Lactulose didn’t actually do much at all for my little one despite him being on the highest dose for his age at the time. He was diagnosed with CMPA and was changed to a prescription milk. All issues resolved themselves after this.

Our LO was on higher than the usual dose for age and it did very little.

Also had CMPA and Reflux, movicol worked/works so much better

Oh right! What age was this? I wonder whether my little one has CMPA.

Sorry, he's 2 weeks. May I ask how they knew it was CMPA?

@Rose1999 He had a lot of symptoms: reflux, rash all over his body, couldn’t poo (was extremely constipated), sick a lot, his poo smelt very vinegary and he was extremely congested. The GP changed his milk when he was 6 weeks old and it worked wonders.
