Anyone know what crepitus means?

I'll elaborate. I've had a stinking weird cold for almost two weeks. Just getting worse every day. I've been to GP today, I'm so congested, my ears hurt, my head hurts, my neck and chest hurts, my back hurts, my throat is so so sore. I feel like utter shite. Coughing up luminous green crap. I could barely lift my head off the pillow this morning, had to take some painkillers and go back to sleep for a bit before I could even move. Doctor checked me over, slight high blood pressure, no temp, said throat looks okay and ears look fine but I do sound very congested. Listens toy chest and just said oh here's some antibiotics. I can't collect them until tomorrow. I've logged onto the patient portal and she's put crepitus sounds and quite left lobe indicating fluid. Does anyone know what this is? I'm a bit annoyed that she didn't even tell me a diagnosis or anything. As my name suggests I have very bad anxiety and being sick has ripped me.over the edge but now I'm even more anxious b cause I don't know how hard wrong or what I'm even taking the anti B's for?! Can anyone help??

It's usually more of a clicking noise, but yes it can also involve some grating or grinding.

Deathbyathousandcats · 23/01/2024 15:28

It means you’ve got a chest infection

sproutsandparsnips · 23/01/2024 15:29

She means she can hear crackles in your left lung and reduced breath sounds which might mean consolidation (patch of infection which means the alveoli have got fluid in them). She is treating you for that infection with antibiotics.

SnakesAndArrows · 23/01/2024 15:29

It means she can hear the sounds that indicate a chest infection, that’s all. Hope you feel better soon.

108Anj · 23/01/2024 15:29

Crepitus just means that your chest sounds a bit crackly, that's all.

BizarrePhenomenon · 23/01/2024 15:29

yes, its lower respiratory tract infection
Crepitations means sounds

RainbowZebraWarrior · 23/01/2024 15:31

Oh, crepitations. Sorry. Yes, more of a crackle.

As others have said, chest infection. Take the antibiotics and hopefully get it shifted.

Thanks all. After a quick Google it acted ye life out of me telling me I've got a collapsed lung or heart failure! In my head or made sense as I feel bloody awful!
