Worrying symptoms

Jodie569 · 23/01/2024 09:14

I've had some worrying symptoms. I do have blood test booked in today and if the results are clear I need to book an MRI and find a private neurologist. Can anyone recommend anyone in southern England please?.

My symptoms-
Pins needles in hands and fingers mainly at night or if I'm laying in bed working leaning on my elbow
Sometimes woken up with a numb right arm
Weak feeling arms and legs
Vision dizzy spells & few weeks ago I was driving and had dark blob of floaters for around 20 seconds. Sometimes blurred vision.
Feels odd when I walk
Hands and feet freezing cold.
Had brain zaps last year but I was extremely exhausted and on high dose propanol.
Restricted breathing and Palpitations too.

I do suffer extreme health anxiety this is why I would prefer to pay private to be seen quicker. I also have a hip problem, I saw a chiropractor years ago who said it was pushed out. I am 44 I've had a lot of peri menopause symptoms since I was 38 never suffered anxiety until that age.

I had those symptoms, had blood test and it turned out I had very low vitamin D. Prescribed a loading dose by Dr and now feeling very much better. It's common at this time of year.

Nannyfannybanny · 23/01/2024 09:28

Presumably if you are booking a private MRI,that hospital will have a neurologist. I don't think anything else will set your mind at rest. I am not saying this is you, but just wanted to share my experience, last year I had pins and needles in bed,at first, then in the day. I thought diabetic neuropathy, had blood tests, all normal range. Then I saw a podiatrist I go to, she said it was a trapped nerve in my back. I went to an osteopath (3rd generation family, have been using 40 years) one treatment sorted. I often have cold hands and feet, when everything else is hot. Podiatrist did doplars, said my blood flow/circulation is fine. I am not saying you don't have any physical health issues, I don't know, hopefully you will be reassured. Let us know how it goes.

BizarrePhenomenon · 23/01/2024 09:28

sounds like my symptoms of fibromyalgia

Jodie569 · 23/01/2024 09:28

Thank you, I've just started taking magnesium and vitamin d. I've already noticed a difference in energy, might be low on b12. Hopefully it's just that and can be resolved.

Cuppa, that's a good point. I take vitamin D October to march, but diagnosed with skin cancer, so have to avoid the sun, and will be taking it all year. Magnesium deficiency can cause similar symptoms as well.

I always thought that too as I am always in pain.

Thank you, I know from experience how much health anxiety can affect my mind. I had real physical symptoms when I had this years ago. I had an MRI years ago referred by my chiropractor.

I use to pay private to have the b12 injections but haven't had it in a year. But not many stopped after a couple.

Just googled this, you could be right my symptoms were nearly all of them. How do they diagnose this?.

Jodie569. Thank you. I had a cancerous lesion removed from bang on the middle of my spine 2017. If it hasn't itched then bled, I wouldn't have even known about it. It was originally a pain head size, all the time it was skin coloured. Been keeping an eye on this "thing" bang on the middle of my chest this time, and a weird looking "thing" that grew on top of a mole on my left arm. Having C&C in a couple of weeks 🤞.

BizarrePhenomenon · 23/01/2024 10:01

I was diagnosed by a Rheumatologist after a load of tests. I did also have low vit D and B12 which I am on supplements for

Fipfop · 23/01/2024 10:04

I have most of these symtpms with low ferritin

It's so scary, I'm quite moley all over. I pay private every year for a fully body check. Something like that scares me because you wouldn't think skin coloured would flag up skin cancer. I have a skin type scab on my leg always making the dermatologist check it, no idea what it is. I'm glad you caught it and now you will probably be monitored regularly. I never sunbathe or go in the sun. I have never even been on a sun bed, all my friends do and they put oil only 🙈

Hi flipflop, I have a couple of friends who had that too. Do they just give you tablets for this?.

I think I need a body MOT to see what's going on. That runs in my family.

Yes just been put on iron tablets for 3 months then they will retest. This is like the 5th time I've been low now. Usually start to feel much better after 2 weeks.

Hopefully what ever it is can be sorted. Must be a pain having to keep getting tested for it.

Fibromyalgia can be diagnosed by a rheumatologist. Ask your GP to refer you.

I received a diagnosis of fibro around 8 years ago. Prior to the diagnosis, I was pretty harsh on myself, but the diagnosis allowed me to accept the need for 'self care'.

I take vitamin D, magnesium and have B12 injections every 3 months (prescribed by my GP). I also take a liquid iron supplement, Sytron.

Jodie569 · 23/01/2024 10:39

Thank you clarice99 I think I may look into this il speak to my doctor, I need to find out what's going on. Can't always blame everything on anxiety, they symptoms is what makes me anxious.

@Jodie569

Are you taking anything for peri-menopausal symptoms?

I started HRT at your age, 44. Peri menopause is not all about hot flushes, night sweats etc. It can, and does, include some if not all of the things you are experiencing.

Rather than seeing a private neurologist and paying for an MRI scan, do you have a GP at your practice who has an interest in menopause? If not, and you can afford to see someone privately, it may be a good idea to pay to see a doctor who has a specialist interest in the menopause.

Also, you could post on the menopause board of this forum. There are some very knowledgeable posters on that board.

I'm pretty good at checking my skin (blue eyes and blonde. Late F had skin cancer,as did DM late cousin (still very much alive at 97!) I had this itch, DH had a look thought it was an insect bite. I went to a free mole check in a Sussex seaside town, run by consultant. It was thought to be an Anmelanotic cancer (which basically means skin coloured melanoma)pretty rare, but it was a bcc. Had a couple of innocent things removed by lovely community dermatologist, kick myself, this was 3 years ago, free of course. The chest thing wasn't very big, looked like a spot, never showed him that. I went private for something else, got consultant to look at these things. Unfortunately now private. Only on a pension, but am quite low maintenance! I live near the beach, south facing which is a bit of a bummer!

I definitely do think that I've had a lot of the peri symptoms including my periods changing rapidly, I did a test online ticked nearly all. But you know what the doctor said... too young and blamed it all on depression/anxiety. This all started when I was 38, I was never anxious or had depression before.

Thank you I think you're right I should get this checked out too.

Was this in Worthing by any chance?. There is one I go to there near the train station. I know I paid hundreds having a check and having certain ones removed, it's not cheap at all. That's good that you get checked, I do check mine but have so many and lots of freckles/blemishes. I wouldn't even know if it was that, so I would rather pay to get checked.
