Worrying symptoms

I've had some worrying symptoms. I do have blood test booked in today and if the results are clear I need to book an MRI and find a private neurologist. Can anyone recommend anyone in southern England please?.

My symptoms-
Pins needles in hands and fingers mainly at night or if I'm laying in bed working leaning on my elbow
Sometimes woken up with a numb right arm
Weak feeling arms and legs
Vision dizzy spells & few weeks ago I was driving and had dark blob of floaters for around 20 seconds. Sometimes blurred vision.
Feels odd when I walk
Hands and feet freezing cold.
Had brain zaps last year but I was extremely exhausted and on high dose propanol.
Restricted breathing and Palpitations too.

I do suffer extreme health anxiety this is why I would prefer to pay private to be seen quicker. I also have a hip problem, I saw a chiropractor years ago who said it was pushed out. I am 44 I've had a lot of peri menopause symptoms since I was 38 never suffered anxiety until that age.

I have similar but worse. Muscle pain and twitching, tingling, electric shock sensations, feeling weak and wobbly, mild headaches. The GP did loads of blood tests and couldn’t find the cause. She gave me iron, Vit D, Vit B and magnesium because I was borderline low, but 3 months later the problem isn’t solved even though my blood numbers have gone up.

I’ve said could it be Lyme Disease, functional Vit B deficiency, perimenopause, something to do with my spine? The GP said no to everything. She thought it was anxiety so she sent me for anxiety counselling for two months, and it helped me to worry less but didn’t fix the problem.

Neurology won’t accept a referral because they said it doesn’t sound neurological - because it’s all over my body not just in one spot, and I don’t have neurological symptoms like muscle weakness. The GP did various checks recommended by neurology, getting me to raise my arms and legs, walk in a straight line, stand with my eyes closed and my arms crossed over my chest - nothing abnormal. So neurology won’t see me.

The GP has said Functional Neurological Disorder, which basically means “something is wrong but we don’t know what”. The GP described it as a software problem rather than a hardware problem. In other words I’m healthy but some neurotransmitter somewhere is registering pain when it shouldn’t be.

At this point they’ve referred me to the “unexplained pain” clinic which is where they send people when they don’t know what’s wrong. The waiting list is months long so I’m not expecting help any time soon.

So sorry you are going through this, it sounds awful. If you are in the position to have you looked into going private? X

Thank you worldwide, I will just keep myself busy till I see the doctor next week. Yes I will do, not sure if it would still be in my system, it was over 6 months ago maybe longer?. X

Realistically I can’t afford private medical care. But I just thought it might reassure you that I have similar (worse actually) and the doctors are absolutely convinced it’s nothing sinister.

Same here it is too expensive. I really do hope you do get to the bottom of it, it's exhausting trying to find out what's wrong with us. X

I had similar symptoms, they've improved greatly since I've taken a Vit D supplement and magnesium. The pins and needles and muscle heaviness have gone.

I have been on them two for a couple of weeks and it's improved a lot of the symptoms I was getting, but my b12 is really high so hopefully normal after retesting. Thank you.

That's textbook low B12, most people won't notice a difference with just a couple of injections. Try an OTC supplement, it'll take a week or so to kick in.

I can pretty much guarantee you won't need an MRI, wait for bloods, try some supplements and go from there.

What do you think you'll see in an MRI? What should be scanned?

worldwidetravel2017 · 01/02/2024 09:53

B12 wise - extra potato and eggs in diet

Also b12 nutritional yeast

@Jodie569 how are you now? Did you go to the drs? X

Thank you, my doctor was brilliant she booked me in for extra bloods. She suspects I'm peri menopausal so I've had hormonal bloods, also thinks if my b12 high I may have pernicious anaemia so I've had extra bloods done for that, I've also been checked by physio at the doctors and had my eyes scanned and checked at the opticians. So hopefully find out if it's something.
