Shadow on X-ray

Looking for advice while awaiting ct

attended MIU on weekend for swelling in legs, chest X-ray for heart taken but they’ve found left sided hemithorax shadow roughly 8cm with nodes next to it enlarged.

worried about lung cancer?
smoker - blood work came back as normal but with slightly low platelets & red cells

How long do you have to wait for the CT scan and do you have any family or friends supporting you?

I had similar and I know how terrifying the wait is. Shadow on my chest x-ray and blood tests according to GP were "I can't tell you they're not concerning".

It was pleural effusion (diagnosed by CT). I also had enlarged nodes (had been suffering with chest infection/pleurisy). Treated with antibiotics, Apparently had it been slightly larger they'd have drained but tried the antibiotics to see if it would self-absorb. Follow up CT 8 weeks later showed it had indeed done so and nodes were much smaller/near normal.

Scan is thankfully this Friday although sick with worry

I really hope it’s a pleural effusion, they said it’s possible malignancy which has worried me with nodes that are enlarged. It’s incredibly worrying when it’s all ‘maybes.’ But I’ve been told the 8cm is rather large so more than likely cancerous
