Question about ribs, and the breakage thereof

At the weekend I'm pretty sure I broke a rib, but it's possible that it's the cartilage rather than the actual rib itself as I didn't hear it crack (which I did last time I broke a rib), instead I just felt something 'give'. I was pressing down on something I was making, essentially pushing my body weight down on my hands and the bottom ribs were talking the pressure.

My question is whether I should ignore it (which I was told to do last time, since ribs heal on their own) or should I get it looked at? I did actually call my useless fucking doctor's surgery this morning and was basically told that I wasn't allowed a telephone appointment (or any other type) and to piss off to hospital if I didn't like that.

Currently it just feels like a broken rib sort of pain, it's only because it's the bottom one which has more cartilage that I was wondering whether I needed to spend the day at hospital to be told there's nothing they'd do anyhow.

Any experts in this area on here?

How's your breathing? If you've pain on taking a deep breath in then I'd get it checked today. Otherwise I'd leave it and see how it goes but maybe get checked if no improvement in a few days. Adding "not a doctor" disclaimer here!

@MassiveOvaryaction Thanks for the response!

It hurts when breathing deeply (but past experience says that's quite normal for a broken rib), particularly when exercising etc. I'll keep an eye on that getting worse though!

Not a doctor, but if there was no actual impact to the rib, as in whacking it on something, it's much more likely to be a muscular injury. There are loads of them around the ribs.
Just getting over this myself. Had it checked out at minor injuries, which is where I got the above info. Taken its time, but am now nearly completely over it. Mine happened about 4 weeks ago, and the nurse told me it should take 4-6 weeks to recover, and so far she's spot on.
I was advised to take ibuprofen and paracetamol.
