Constipation / pain / IBS?

Hi there,
just looking for some reassurance.
I have had constipation since this summer. This was preceded by pelvic and back pain which I thought was caused by copper coil. I have had the coil removed but it hasn’t helped. I’ve tried al sorts of laxatives that the GP recommended but none of them are amazing. My pelvic pain is not that common now, it’s more the back pain and the right side flank, front and back. Pretty much constant. Bloating as well which I suppose is caused by constipation. I was in prucalopride for the month which was the most effective and the bloating went down then.
I had some IBS-y type pains on the right hand side before, probably two episodes that lasted a few months, going as back as 10 years, but have been fine since. Bloods fine, stool sample fine - referred to refractory IBS clinic.
I am 45.
Has anyone had anything similar?

What are your stools like and what is the frequency of them? Did you GP try you with fybogel or laxido?

I'm having bowel issues since last summer too and it's actually starting to affect my quality of life now when it flares bad.

Have u had a colonoscopy ?

Moodgie · 21/01/2024 17:08

No, the GP says she cannot refer me as my FIT stool test and bloods are fine.

They are mainly lumpy. I tried lactulose, fybogel and dulcoease, they make me go every day but it is not what it should be. I also was on prucalopride and that made it better too but still not ideal. I am now trying fubocalm.

Have you asked 4 ca125 blood test to rule out ovarian cancer re the bloating ?

Nogodsnomasters · 21/01/2024 18:13

Moodgie · 21/01/2024 17:08

No, the GP says she cannot refer me as my FIT stool test and bloods are fine.

Mine said the same, fit test negative, rectal exam normal, blood tests fine so no red flags other than consistent change in bowel movements but I've had IBS for over 10yrs so they're just happy to put it down to more of that.

Moodgie · 21/01/2024 18:47

@Nogodsnomasters Are you in any pain with it? And do you get bloated?

OP posts:
Moodgie · 21/01/2024 18:48

@worldwidetravel2017 Yes, they did that and did the pelvic ultrasound (ovaries, uterus, bladder) - all good.

Have you had your liver checked?
Hows your bmi ?

One in 3 people have fatty liver

worldwidetravel2017 · 21/01/2024 18:51

My consultant told me pains on left , ibs

But pains on right can be liver or something else

Nogodsnomasters · 21/01/2024 20:19

Moodgie · 21/01/2024 18:47

@Nogodsnomasters Are you in any pain with it? And do you get bloated?

Occasionally but not constant. Bloating mostly in the evenings and pain very minimal and moves around, nothing specific. My GP also felt my stomach and listened to my bowel with a stethoscope and said everything appeared normal.

Moodgie · 21/01/2024 20:29

@Nogodsnomasters @worldwidetravel2017 BMI is normal.
I would like to see a gastroenterologist but the GP only did a referral to refractory IBS clinic as sees no reason. Waiting for a letter and hoping it will be soon. It’s difficult not to stress and then it’s a vicious circle.
With regards to sides, years ago when they told me IBS, the only symptom really was the right-hand side pain. I’ve never had it on the left-hand side. My lower back gets painful too.

DS had this for years with IBS diagnosis but turned out to be Hashimoto and coeliac disease. Removing gluten made a big difference

ThursdayTomorrow · 21/01/2024 21:15

Coeliac disease was my thought too.
1:100 people have Coeliac disease, yet only 1/3 are diagnosed.

ComingHomeAgain · 21/01/2024 21:20

I've had this for a couple of years. Too low to be liver. Diagnosed with IBS. Due to a family history of IBD I am having a colonoscopy soon, but markers for that are good, so I doubt it. It comes and goes. I have noticed milk makes it worse, stress makes it worse. I'm just a few years older than you and have some bloating a lot of the time. It's better if I eat lightly. Not sure if that's hormonal as I know it can be a symptom of perimenopause. I've been tested and no problems with gluten detected.

Moodgie · 22/01/2024 07:08

@ThursdayTomorrow I have been tested for coeliac and all fine. I’ve been trying no gluten, no lactose, no caffeine - doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Moodgie · 22/01/2024 07:09

@ComingHomeAgain What are your symptoms?

OP posts:
MissSmiley · 22/01/2024 07:12

My coeliac blood tests were negative for 15 years before one of my kids got tummy problems so I had genetic test and biopsies and diagnosed classic coeliac disease.
Are you anaemic?
Are you taking a multivitamin? They make me very constipated, I think it's the small amount of iron in them

Unabletomitigate · 22/01/2024 08:03

Try a strict ellimination diet. This a strict carnivore diet but seems to work for whole host of gut problems, for more info look at Ken Berry and Shawn Baker on youtube.

Moodgie · 22/01/2024 12:19

@MissSmiley I took iron supplements before but stopped them months ago because I thought they might be contributing to the issues. It hasn’t made any difference.
I have been careful and when I have tried eliminating gluten (I don’t eat a lot of it is it), it still hasn’t made a difference.

Do u have any colon cancer history in your family?

worldwidetravel2017 · 22/01/2024 13:17

Could it be a milk issue ?

Moodgie · 22/01/2024 13:31

@worldwidetravel2017 No history.

My mum has had issues for years - mostly pain on left side though. Never diagnosed with anything.
