on monday i gave ds some fish fingers. he ate his and then i had some but i noticed mine were a bit cold. i don't know if they were cold just cos i hadn't eaten them straight away or if it was cos they weren't cooked enough. literally 5 minutes after he had finished he was sick everywhere. i thought it was cos he'd stuffed himself with chocolate mousse but then about 4 or 5 hours later he was sick again. and 4 more times through the night. wasn't sick yesterday but he was in the middle of the night and also this morning after i tried to give him toast. i haven't been ill and luckily he doesn't have any diorrhea (sp?). his poohs are very soft but i think that's because he's only having water and watered down milk.

I read that food poisoning tends to come on after 2+hours so it seems a bit soon to have been the fish fingers! Round my way there is a nasty vomiting bug doing the rounds - I bet that's what he's got?

nappyaddict · 19/03/2008 14:50

would he have diarrhea with a sickness bug though? i always thought they came hand in hand.

you can have a bug without diarrhoea, its too soon after he ate the fish fingers for it to have been that he didn't absorb them at all, fish can be eaten raw or lightly cooked anyway.

nappyaddict · 19/03/2008 14:55

doesn't fish have to be fresh though if you want to eat it raw/lightly cooked? these were frozen fish fingers so definitely not fresh in the slightest. i thought fish was as dangerous as say chicken if not cooked thoroughly to kill any bacteria that might be present?

Think if it was food poisoning you'd have it too if you'd had the fishfingers - probably just a bug. Also food poisoning usually comes out both ends iirc!

LaylaandSethsmum · 19/03/2008 15:00

Hmm.... now i'm not so sure? I would doubt it would be as bad as chicken but even so 5 mins after eating them hasn't allowed enough time for absorption of anythinhg anyway.

nappyaddict · 19/03/2008 15:17

that's true ... i thought maybe he was sick so soon cos they were so utterly disgusting or something.

the diarrhea has now started. the thing is he was fine all day yesterday and fine all day today but then last night and now tonight he has been sick. why is he only being sick at night time?

It was a bug. If it persists for more than 3 days go to the doctor.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 02:14

will be 72 hours by tomorrow lunchtime but then it will be the bank holiday so should probably get him seen tomorrow morning if i can.

DD (11) has just had a similar bug.

Slight amount of diarrhoea on early Sunday morning and loads of vomiting - even sips of water set off a bout. Overnight Sunday-Monday (I think) she was feverish. Monday she wouldn't eat or drink anything but slept lots. Tuesday diarrhoea started and was continuous - at one point 7 visits to loo in 10 mins she told me. Yesterday she finally started eating again about lunchtime and kept it in. So about 75 hours start to finish.

She's not up yet but I think she'll be fine today.

bossybritches · 20/03/2008 06:44

NA-if it's aany consolation that's EXACTLY the syptoms of a bug that's been doing the rounds up here- loads of our nursery kids had it one day AND 2 members of staff who are NEVER off sick! Prompting a similar panic in us about food poisoning-till we looked at the kids who'd gone down & 3 of them had been off the day before -phew!!

It seems to be a particularly nasty but thankfully short lived bug, but don't rush to get him better a lot of people are having a relapse a week later if they go back too work too soon (adults)

But as you say with the BH coming up I'd get him checked over today if you are worried.

nappyaddict · 20/03/2008 07:05

i wasn't too worried as he only seemed to be sick for the one day and then the next day was fine and wasn't sick at all so i thought we'd got over it. it's the middle of the night vomitting that's a bit odd. he kept all his food down tuesday and wednesday but both tuesday and wednesday nights woke up at about 2am being sick.

How is he today NA??

nappyaddict · 21/03/2008 17:41

wasn't sick at all yesterday but then he was this morning. he goes a day without being sick and i think he's better and then he's sick again. i don't get it cos he held all his food down yesterday and he had toast, a banana, fish, peas and cheese potato pie and then he had lasagne for tea. if he managed to keep all that down why the hell was he sick this morning!!

bossybritches · 23/03/2008 09:14

cumulative effect probably-his digestion must still be a bit sluggish. keep him on little & often for a few days, scrambled egg, plain rice dishes etc and lots of water

Sorry to be personal but is he poo-ing OK now?

nappyaddict · 23/03/2008 10:37

he seems to have ok poohs, then the odd diarrhea type pooh, but not constant diarrhea.

probably working through then !
