Hi, I’ve had this rash on my hand for a couple of weeks. Does anyone recognise what it is? TIA X

Might it be contact dermatitis, from something like handwash?

ChocHotolate · 19/01/2024 20:57

That looks as if it could be scabies. Have a google and look at some photos and see what you think

NewYearNewMe1000 · 19/01/2024 23:48

Hiya, funny enough, I have bought a new handwash 😞, thank you for your reply x

I will look up scabies, I’m slightly terrified though. Thank you for replying x

I think scabies.

EBearhug · 20/01/2024 00:10

Apparently there's a scabies epidemic currently, according to something I heard on the radio recently.

If it is, it's treatable, but you will need to treat the whole household and launder everything.

LadyLolaRuben · 20/01/2024 00:20

Yes another vote for scabies. Plus look for track marks going up your hands which is also a sign

Thank you everyone for your responses x

What's the line going across your hand? Or is it just the light?

NewYearNewMe1000 · 25/01/2024 20:20

its the shadow of my ‘phone.

I had scabies many years ago. Didn't look as scaly as that but for me, it itched like mad - that's how I realised I had it.

NewYearNewMe1000 · 25/01/2024 20:23

Update: spoke to the GP, it’s contact dermatitis and have been given some creams to treat it. Thank you everyone for your replies, I truly appreciate that you took the time to respond x

...but it could also be eczema/dematitis eg because that's a bit of your hand that doesn't get the handwash rinsed/wiped as much as the rest - especially of you need to wash your hands a lot. Or it could even be the hand equivalent of athelete's foot, for similar reasons.

I would be inclined to try a pharmacy first of all, as they might be able to advise - but you may be told you need a doctors' appointment for a proper diagnosis and prescription. Good luck.

KirstenBlest · 25/01/2024 20:27

@NewYearNewMe1000 , it looks like what happens to my hands if I use handwash. Stop using it, and use a bar of soap or a liquid soap instead.
Not all liquid soaps are soap, quite a few are detergent-based.

cross posted! great service from your GP!
