Smell loss - help!!

Hiya, have posted quite a lot about this in the last few weeks as it's been causing me a lot of anxiety... sorry!

I had covid at the beginning of January, only mild symptoms but lost some of my sense or smell. It didn't go completely but went down to about 50% of normal. Once I tested negative it slowly started coming back, up to maybe 80% of normal.

A couple of days ago I started with what felt like a cold - streaming nose, very congested, sneezing a lot. Took a covid test which was negative. Yesterday I noticed my sense of smell going, and by the evening it was very weak. This morning I've woken up with no smell at all - complete loss, much more profound than when I had covid.

I'm pretty freaked out by this, and worried that somehow the covid/cold in quick succession has destroyed my sense of smell forever!! I do feel very congested, but I can just about breathe through my nose if I try (alternates which nostril is fully blocked). I know congestion can affect smell but I'm not used to it being a complete loss.

Has anyone else ever lost smell so profoundly with a cold? Did it come back? Also has anyone else had covid and then got ill again in such a short space of time?

Hi, I lost my sense of smell with Covid back in 2020. It took about 3 months to come back! Now I seem more prone to losing it with any cold and not just Covid. I think smell training (I found instructions online) helps a bit but that could just be my imagination Confused Good luck

I lost mine for a few weeks recently with a sinus infection
It's back completely now. 🙂
