UTI - Proteus not Ecoli

Hi- this is following on from another thread.
I'm just on 2nd lot of antibiotics for uti but finding it difficult to find self help things that apply to proteus infection which seems to be a lot less common than ecoli infections.
It looks like D Mannose for example doesn't respond to porteus infections (?)
I'm menopausal and already have vagifem to start when I've finished antibiotics.
(On day 3 at the moment but some symptoms definitely still there and want to do what I can to try and clear it up fully / prevent it coming back as a/ it's horrible b/ it's had a really significant impact on work.)

Hopeful bump - although I realise there might not be any replies because it's not very common

Hi OP, hope you are feeling much better. I’m going through something similar now with proteus UTI infection and just wondered if you found any self-help products to help? I’ve been prescribed trimethoprin tablets now for a 7 day course. Many thanks.

Sorry only just seen this.
Unfortunately I needed a few different courses of antibiotics to clear it (but you might not!)
Other things I did :
Stopped using any bubble bath/ perfumed soap
Stopped fizzy drinks / fruit juices and alcohol
I think in the end it was just time. I hope it clears really quickly for you

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I’m very grateful. Thanks for the helpful recommendations for self-help, I will do the same. Unfortunately the trimethoprim doesn't seem to be helping annoyingly and just about finished the course so I’m going to have to book another GP appointment. Do you recall what antibiotics you tried and which antibiotics helped the best to get over your proteus infection? Your reply has given me hope that I will rid of this nasty UTI eventually as it is getting me down and is causing pain and discomfort, it’s the worst UTI I’ve ever had. Normally one lot of antibiotics and it’s cleared up in the past, I’m perimenopausel now so will talk to my GP about some creams too. Thanks again!

Make sure that your gp sends off a sample for culture. That should then come back with recommendations of antibiotics that your particular infection is susceptible to.
I had amoxicillin (3 times in total), trimethoprim and Nitrofurantoin (twice I think) but they might not be the right ones for you.
