Unexpected Diverticulitis flare up

I've been in abdominal pain since last week but powered through thinking it was linked to the menopause. By Monday night, after a busy day at work, the pain had spread to the left side of my body, particularly underneath my lower ribs and I was shivering and feverish.

GP Tuesday, after pinprick blood test and urine sample etc shows inflammation and infection in my body and diagnosed a flare up of diverticulitis. I'm on 2 types of strong antibiotics for 5 days. They're massive!

I thought diverticulitis was a life-long disease? I wasn't in a fit place to discuss it yesterday but today, the shivering and fever have gone.

Does anyone have experience of this as a sudden flare up? Can you talk to me about it please?

My husband has this. He has had a couple of bad flare ups and needed antibiotics to clear it.
Its basically little pouches in the digestive system that get infected now and then.
He also has IBS. So a good diet helps. Main thing that helps my husband is Actimel drinks, and Activia yoghurts. If he misses for 2 days his IBS hits in.
it took years and lots of diet changes to find out what was best for him. He finds he can’t eat a lot of red meat.

When you have a flair up you need to avoid fibre until you feel better. Then go back to a high fibre diet for everyday.

Thanks both.
The pain is easing very quickly with the tablets although it still feels sore to touch and inflamed in that area.

I think I need to be a little healthier. My diet is carb heavy and it isn't doing me any good!
