Flu/ ill for 3 weeks - anyone else?

I started feeling unwell on Christmas Day, which turned into flu followed by sinusitis. I got anti biotics for the sinusitis which cleared up but have still not felt right since. I get extremely tired and slightly breathless after doing even small tasks. Now three weeks in I'm starting to ache all over again, head getting sore again too.

Been to GP who said viruses can take a while to pass but come back in next week if not yet better. Covid tests were negative.

Anyone else had this?

You poor thing, that sounds really tough. It's maybe a post-viral weakness/fatigue that is leading to you picking up other infections? I'm so sorry you're going through that, I think you've just got to rest as much as possible and wait it out. I went through something similar in 2017 where I had illness after illness and I think it was work + young child that was taking too much out of me. I managed to stop breastfeeding my older baby and actually that seemed to sort out my illness problems, like my body couldn't manage everything and I had to stop breastfeeding to recover.
Hope things improve for you soon.

Thanks so much for replying. Fatigue is a really good description, I'm trying to rest as much as I can but it's hard with a 4 year old. I've got some sambucol and stocked up on soup, hoping that plying myself with vitamins will help!

I’m currently suffering with pneumonia at the moment and have been for the last week. Felt a teeny bit better today but then all of a sudden I feel floored again!

Yes me Dr said it was likely to be Covid despite the negative test , unwell for about ten days from 27th back to work for a week a felt better and then got hit for six again with same symptoms - apparently Covid rebound

I have been in bed since last sat with it, it’s driving me insane!

I have also been unwell since Christmas Day. I got back-to-back viruses which I had no choice but to push on through, then they complicated into a chest infection, and for the last week I've been laid out with post viral syndrome - dizziness, headaches, fatigue. I'm only now starting to feel like myself again. It's been very dull and aggravating.

It just seems like it’s never ending - I’ve had some kind of virus / illness since October and just never seem to get a break! Hope you’re doing ok!

Mine started on 30th December and I finally feel more myself today- three weeks to the day. Was a scary couple of weeks, as also have a four year old!

It’s so hard with kids being ill the mam guilt eats me away! I have a 8 and 11 year old xx

babysnowman · 20/01/2024 18:27

I went to doc yesterday as still have constant headache/breathlessness/ fatigue...they ended up sending me to hospital to get checked out. They did some tests but said it's most likely just 'post viral' and can take weeks to clear, the only thing I can do is rest.

It's been nearly 4 weeks now, never had anything go on so long, starting to wonder if I'll ever feel back to normal! I've been off work and thinking I should go back next week since it's been so long and I feel guilty even though right now I feel like absolute crap.

Also - agree with the mum guilt, I have a 4 year old and feel awful for not having the energy to play with her or take her places the past few weeks

Yes I've been poorly with this since before Christmas. The coughing and the fatigue are awful

It’s awful, I really feel for you, this pneumonia really knocks you I’ve been in bed for a week. I suppose my kids understand a bit more with being a bit older but the mam guilt eats away at me all the time. I just want to feel better xx
