Consultant appointment before scan results?

Hi all, I'm on the 2ww pathway (although now longer than that as I couldn't make the scan date due to back issues) and my CT scan is now due next week. However this morning I got a letter from the gastro dept with an appointment in March with a consultant. This is before I've had my scan and results! Is this normal?

In the meantime all my symptoms have resolved (discovered they were caused by gluten!), so I am much better. Still in 2 minds as to whether to have the scan next week.

There won’t be much point in having the appointment if they don’t have any scan results, it’s probably happened because you postponed the first scan appointment, the system isn’t that linked up that they’d automatically alter the consultant appointment.

I guess that makes sense in a way. Yes if the results show nothing, maybe they'll cancel it. Seems a bit disjointed, I they hospital asked for various blood test results but my GP surgery managed to lose them!

Call them and ask if you need move the consultant appointment to after your scan.

It is after my scan, the point is I've not had a scan with results yet, seems odd to make an appointment for me when the results aren't in. However the pp clarified it may just be confusion due to rebooking the first scan.

Sorry I'm confused. You said the consultant appointment was before you had your scan and results?

Mufflepuff · 12/01/2024 12:37

It's normal to have a scan and then a later follow up appointment with a consultant to discuss the results - whether it shows anything or not.

@Mufflepuff I said "my CT scan is now due next week. However this morning I got a letter from the gastro dept with an appointment in March with a consultant." Sorry if that's confusing.

I'm just surprised it's come through so soon!

Were you being investigated for coeliac disease? Because if so you are usually not advised to give up gluten until tests are complete.

LIZS · 12/01/2024 14:13

You may not have received the scan results but they will be available for the consultant appointment.

Greybeardy · 12/01/2024 14:19

there's loads of time for the scan to be reported before the appointment and even if it's not the consultant will be able to interpret the major details.

No I wasn't.
