Broken toe? Foot?

just looking for any opinions as I’m on my own and nearest
hospital is a 2.5 hour drive away 🤦‍♀️
the first pic on left is tonight and the others go back in time to second day after fall.
I fell down 3 stairs nearly a week ago - simple slip but somehow landed badly on my right foot. The bruising since then has been dramatic but as I can wiggle my
toes I’ve assumed it’s just bad bruising. But it’s still very hard for me to get a shoe on, it just wants slippers and it’s still sore. My toe nearest big toe will only bend slightly.
is there any point in trekking to hospital for an X-ray? I’ve got 2 kids and on my own so I’d need to take them or take a day off work to travel there and back, neither of which sound great but I’m starting to wonder if I’m being foolish and need to get it checked out. Thank you in advance 🌻

Ooh nasty. I'd tape them together, that's all a doctor/nurse would do anyway.

Jagley · 10/01/2024 21:11

Ouch! Is it just the toes that are hurting or your foot as well?

DratDrat · 10/01/2024 21:20

Just as a Warning, make sure you do tape your toes together and rest it as much as you can. I didn’t and I now have arthritis in my toes

Sunbeamsandshadows · 10/01/2024 21:40

It’s my
whole top of
foot, especially when I try and stuff it into anything that’s not a slipper. I’ve been plodding along like I usually do if it’s just me and not one of the kids and assuming just nasty bruising but I’m just querying if more than that and if so if I’m going to cause future problems for myself by ignoring the drive to hospital 🤦‍♀️

Why do you have to go tonight, can't you go in the morning?

Sunbeamsandshadows · 10/01/2024 22:05

Sorry
i don’t mean tonight!
I just meant I’ve been avoiding the 5 hour round trip to my
nearest hospital that has X-ray facilities (we are v rural) so it’s either go in an evening with my 2 kids which will be awful or twke
a day off work and go while they are in school and my a/l isn’t great and i
try and save it for taking kids hols or if one of them is off sick as I’m on my
own.

I walked on mine for a week and bruising got steadily worse as it turned out a bone was broken. Bare in mind when you go to a&e if it is broken you won't be able to drive home. If you phone 111 in my area they give you an appointment for the walk in centre that has an X-ray Mon-Fri.

Sunbeamsandshadows · 10/01/2024 22:59

Ah that’s good advice - thank you

Being able to move your toes doesn't mean nothing is broken. That's the mistake I made!

Sunbeamsandshadows · 10/01/2024 23:20

Ah🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️must be an old
wives tale
then!!

I ignored my very painful “twisted” ankle for four weeks. Then gave in and had an x Ray. Yep. Broken. Still hurts over 15 years later. I would get it checked. Hope you’re ok.

Turmerictolly · 10/01/2024 23:25

Take sick leave and get checked out.

Tilllly · 11/01/2024 03:51

If you've waited this long, (I don't mean that snotty!) can you wait till your next non-working day, and go early morning?

My husband was hobbling about an a 'sprained' ankle for four days, he could wriggle his toes. He had four broken bones including his tibia, and ended up needing a plate and ten pins in it. He is still on crutches six weeks later, and will be for a while. Get it checked.
