I had my third baby 4 years ago and had a second degree tear where the stitches failed and I was left with a gaping wound which had to heal on it's own. I've just been to see a gynaecologist as I knew things were damaged, the result being that I have a minor rectocele and a deficient perineum with a flap of skin. Sigh. I've been offered a perineal reconstruction and posterior repair and have been reading up on this. It's more invasive and the recovery longer than I had anticipated I would be in for. I don't want to walk around feeling damaged forever so I think I'm going to go for the surgery (even thought it's all functional so feels a bit selfish).
Has anyone had this done? How was it? How long until you could function again normally? In my head it was going to be like after childbirth (which was bad enough), but maybe not? Did it fix your issues and give you back your perineum or did you have complications?
I'm kind of excited at the thought of being 'normal' again, but pretty scared as I've had memories of the year and recovery from an episiotomy too.
I found the old raggedy bits threads and some other old threads on similar subjects, just thought I'd start a new one to see if anyone if going through this now.
