Antibiotic advice, can I split the pill?

Hello, I've been prescribed metronidazole for tooth infection, I'm not able to swallow large tablets, it's round with a split line, is it safe to split it if taking both halves? (I have a pill cutter).

I’m sure it will be fine. It’s an aggressive antibiotic but works really well for tooth infections, (from my experience). Don’t forget not to drink alcohol whilst taking it or for 48 hours after you’ve finished the course. Hope you’re better soon.

Some brands will say “swallow whole” either on the pharmacy label, manufacturer’s box or info leaflet.
If it has a line on it, it’s probably one of the other brands. Drink plenty of water with them.

I'm on metranidazole (and amoxicillin!) for a wisdom tooth gum infection. No side effects at all so far and I've had 7/15. I'll keep my fingers crossed it's plain sailing for you!

You can but it tastes absolutely vile
