Skin biopsy

I have this on my arm what I assumed was from a bite that I had messed around with. I went to doctors they put me on Antibotics as it got infected as I used after bite which has amonia in it anyway it went down and almost went but didn’t. Our GP has a dermy doctor and he saw me and said looks like an over reaction under the skin but will refer to dermatologist he said it could take months to go.

i saw the dermatologist today she looked at it and said it still looked inflamed and little lumpy so she said she’d do a biopsy. I said ok, she was filling in and said she’s put suspected skin cancer but she doesn’t think thats what it is but I’m paranoid now why has she put that if she doesn’t think it?

first photo is now second is how it was after I messed with it. It’s will itchy too every so often.

They have to give a reason on the request form - if it's 'no idea what this is' then the main thing is to rule out a skin malignancy, even if she's 99% sure it isn't - is it a box on a form?
I would put it to the furthest back of your mind and await the result. Come back & let us know when you do!

I’ve not had anything through I went to see her today and as she was typing it up she was saying it’s down as suspected skin cancer but I don’t think that’s what it is. So guessing maybe that’s what letter will say.

She might have just wrote 'suspected skin cancer' so that the lab would look into it asap! You know how it is nowadays trying to get test results back and appointments with Doctors. She may have just wrote that to fast-track the biopsy sample so that your mind could be put at rest quicker. Let us know how you get on. Much love x

I’ve not had the biopsy yet x

Depending what they put on the form determines how quickly it gets removed. Suspected cancer is 2 weeks so the quickest. Some like BCC are 6m.

The last comment doesn't really make sense - a BCC (basal cell carcinoma) is a skin cancer. I hope you get a biopsy quickly Op - if it helps I have had two BCCs and neither looked anything like this.

WhatAFoolishFool · 06/01/2024 20:12

It does make sense. There are guidelines for how quickly they remove certain lesions. BCC is slow growing and not a concern so the guidance is 6m for suspected BCC. Melanoma is the biggest risk and is 2w.
