Fast growing lymph node in neck - CT scan, MRI scan and ultrasound booked

DH has a lymph node in his neck. He discovered it 3 weeks ago and it’s getting bigger rapidly. It’s quite large and is visible. Fast tracked to ENT consultant who we saw on Tuesday. MRI, CT and ultra sound booked for tomorrow. Consultant said he didn’t know what it was but wants to get examined quickly. I’m fearing that he must think it’s definitely cancer. Anyone else been this position? I’m sick with worry and my husband is terrified too so I know I need to be strong.

Is it hard or soft?
DH’s was hard and immovable. A fine needle aspiration during ultrasound did prove it to be cancer but, when he was examined before referring for it, he was told that that was the likely outcome.
If the consultant doesn’t know what it is then there’s hope your DH has some other issue.
I hope all will be okay for him, I know what a worrying time this is for you both Flowers

Lymph node in his neck, stage 4 SCC.

@FutureUncertain im so sorry. I have been reading a lot about head and neck cancer and fear that my dh maybe suffering from SCC. He doesn’t smoke or drink but know it can be connected to HPV

For DH it had spread from a skin lesion that was an SCC and hadn’t been fully removed.
I hope you don’t have to wait too long for the results of all the scans and all turns out to be okay.

@FutureUncertain my Dad had the very same thing. Has your husband been offered immunotherapy. I believe they are seeing some really promising results.

I’m sorry your dad went through the same.
Yes. DH recently started immunotherapy after the radiotherapy had little effect.

@Meandmyfeelings I have been thinking of you, I hope all was okay with the scan results and it was good new and not as bad as you feared.

Hi @FutureUncertain. Thanks so much for your message. He has been told that the tumour is probably on his left tonsil. We have a meeting tomorrow with his consultant to find out is treatment options. He has also been told he will need a tonsillectomy. How is everything with you ?

It must have been an agonising wait for you, it all seems to take far too much time when you are so desperate for something, anything to start treatment wise. I hope when you see the consultant they have promising options. 🤞🏻A tonsillectomy is a daunting prospect I’m sure, I hope they get that done asap and get it out of the way.

We are also in limbo, he is to have a scan early Feb and they will decide if they will stop the immunotherapy. The last scan showed cancer was still growing, rather than staying the same/shrinking, but that was only after 3 treatments, I’m not sure what difference another 3 will have made but I am just hoping he can continue.

Meandmyfeelings · 25/01/2024 09:37

@FutureUncertain i really hope the next scan brings better news. I believe it may take months to see a gradual shrinkage so I believe that there is hope. Do let me know how he gets on. X

I’m keeping everything crossed for you today 🤞🏻
