I've had some kind of virus for 7 days, my son was ill for 3 days just before I started with mine so I assumed it would have gone by day 3 but here we are. I started with a really bad sore throat last saturday and by the next day I had a sore neck with whole body aches with a temperature and a headache, then it developed into a cough kinda, but it's more like a shortness of breath that makes me cough, it's not too bad if I'm sat or laid down but after gotten up it takes ages to settle again. I've had some slight congestion over the past few days too. I've had no chest pain, wheezing or anything similar to indicate a chest infection and my sp02 is normal, there's nothing on my tonsils to indicate a throat infection either so I think it's just viral but it's lasting so long, my temperate is around 38.1°c so not too high but not my usual temperature either. I started with the exact same symptoms as my DS so assumed it was the same thing, I just can't shake it off. Has anyone else has this?

You’ve just described how my covid started a couple of weeks ago.

AllTheChaos · 29/12/2023 22:49

Mmm. Sounds like a friends recent Covid infection, too. Her children all shook it off in a few days, it took her a lot longer. I’ve noticed that tends to happen, children are either so ill it’s scary, or else they shake things off a lot faster than their grown ups do!

I did think covid but the lateral flow tests are negative and my DS was negative also. They're tests we had left over from earlier in the year though but still in date, are the old ones less likely to pick up new strains? I should have added that I'd tested negative for covid on the lateral flow tests.

Probably Covid. My dd tested negative on lateral flows until her quarantine was almost over (during height of pandemic) and she was nhs tested positive. Many I know only test positive on lf tests near the end of their symptoms

Ah so i just tested again and it came up positive straight away. Strange that it's coming up now and not when the symptoms started last weekend. Thanks all for your input, I probably wouldn't have tested again had you all not said it's likely covid.

That’s so odd that the latest strain only tests positive a few days after symptoms appear! Happened to my friend, too. Must remember in case I catch it!

Weird isn't it, I just assumed that there was a crazy virus doing the rounds. In the past we've always tested positive early on when the symptoms started.
I'm praying I've not passed it on to the few family members that I've seen over Christmas, although my DM did come for boxing day dinner but she didn't stay too long as I felt pretty rubbish and then i fell asleep on the sofa soon after we had eaten. It's typical that my time off from work has been wasted on being ill for the majority of it, I'm self employed so I don't take much unpaid time off.

This was my pattern: negative test results until day 8!

Those who have had it recently, how long does the shortness of breath last? Because I'm getting so fed up now, I'm not too bad when I'm sat or laid down but as soon as I get up to do anything productive it aggravates whatever is causing the shortness of breath and that's making me cough which then makes breathing harder. My sp02 is still normal when I'm sat down, it dips to low 90's sometimes when I'm stood up and I've really set it off, so it's not dropping too low so I'm not overly concerned I'm just fed up with it. I'm supposed to back at work on weds, my job is physical and currently I can't work like this if it doesn't get better by then 😔
