Chest X Ray

I have had a cough now for 6 weeks, I don't cough much 2-3 times a day but when I do it sounds very wet. I also have phlegm stuck at the back of my throat and feel breathless.
I made a GP appointment yesterday and he checked my oxygen levels which were fine and listened to my chest which was clear.
He then told me that it was probably just a long lasting cold and some can last for up to 12 weeks.
He then referred me for a chest x ray. Is this normal if my chest sounded clear?

Yes.

@K4tM why do they order a x ray if everything sounds ok? Should I be worried, sorry I suffer with health anxiety so don't cope well in these sort of situations.

It probably is just a virus, but there are conditions that can cause this kind of thing that would show up on an X-ray e.g. sarcoidosis long term sufferer here and I have tens of chest X-rays over the years.

It’s quick, painless and doesn’t do harm. Dr would be negligent not to send you. She is just doing her job. If it’s clear then that’s great, if not further investigation needed.
