Constipation

Hi all

I am looking for some positive stories from anyone who has overcome or been able to manage chronic constipation. I have seen specialists and have nothing "wrong" with me structurally but I really struggle with going to the loo. I take prucalopride and magnesium citrate daily. The thing I find odd is that I now have weeks (or longer) where everything works very well, to the extent that I wonder if I can come off the meds and become "normal" (whatever that is) again, but then I enter a period in which it feels as though my system just shuts down, stops working, and I never get the urge. I become very depressed when this happens as it really affects my daily life and work. Does anyone else experience this?

Oh, I should also say that I have tried ALL of the usual advice for well over a decade - so please can noone suggest more fruit and veg (however well-meaning!).

How old are you @Wotty ? Just wondering whether peri menopause might be making a difference, as I believe oestrogen levels can affect digestion (I'm not an expert though!). Presumably you've been tested for Crohn's and coeliac disease? Have you identified which foods help, and which cause you trouble?
