Hello ladies, I have been developing bruises on my legs, I know I should go and see my GP as I am not bumping into things or on medication but I'm wondering if anyone knows why it happens. They are not tiny bruises, they are massive. I don't have any other symptoms. This is not normal right?

Clotting problems, like thrombocytopaenia, can cause this.

See the GP for blood tests.

Thankyou, I think he's sick of the sight of me. I had glandular fever a year ago and have been ill ever since. Would this cause joint pain aswell?

I got these when in the last few weeks of preg3, bruises on thighs and arms, I was taken in to hospital and tested for all sorts ofthings, including liver failure and leukemia. Thankfully nothing came up but we never did get to the bottom of it.

I'm not pregnant, not on any medication. I'll go and see him (again) tomorrow. They are rather huge and I've got no idea how they got there. I'd remember banging my legs. I cut my hand on te dustbin last week, could it be a bug?

A friend of mine had this years ago, and it was a platelet problem - sorted out after a few months, kept a check for a few years, but never re-occurred. Do get it checked out. They will always check for the major things like leukaemia with bruising, and are absolutely right to - but there are lots of other causes that are much less scary, but do need treating. HTH...

I had this last autumn. Bruises would just appear on my legs for no reason. Same with joint pain. Had a blood test and it came back that I was anaemic.

Been taking spatone since then. Joint pain is back at the moment, but I have a cold/virus and I think that is the cause. Gp thought I probably had a virus too last autumn as was feeling generally crap!
