I've had a G&T
It was supposed to be a treat but it's made me feel a bit queasy - and it's been a week since chemo

And this is really not a big deal at all but it's just annoyed me

So I've had a pedicure with my foot spa and my feet could grace the international catwalks

TopOfTheCliff · 17/01/2024 20:47

Crumbs @Florsilvestredelcampo if we had to post something useful most of us would never say anything!
I’m spending most of my spare time bundled up against the cold weeding my allotment to get it into order before I am invalided out again for a couple of months. I’m really enjoying myself with the songbirds and a few cats for company. It’s taken my mind off waiting for my annual mammogram result which came back NORMAL! 🥳

SewingBees · 17/01/2024 21:02

@TopOfTheCliff Woohoo! That's great news x

Tilllly · 17/01/2024 21:56

🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍🍾🍾🍾🥳🥳🥳@TopOfTheCliff

Woohoooooo for normal results

Fantasea · 17/01/2024 23:07

@TopOfTheCliff fabulous news, I'm really pleased for you!

EachandEveryone · 17/01/2024 23:38

Brilliant news!!👍👍

lucysmam · 18/01/2024 18:27

Any of you had a wisdom tooth out? I'm wondering whether to request one or two days off afterwards - I'm not sure how painful it's likely to be?

I'll be back to properly catch up after I shower & warm up.

SewingBees · 18/01/2024 20:04

@lucysmam A long time ago. I think it depends on what is needed to get it out. Is it being done at your dentist's or at a dental hospital? Are you just having local anaesthetic?

If it's fairly straightforward you might not need any time off work (depending what you do). Just be sure to leave the hole alone, because if you pull the blood clot out and get a dry socket it's absolute agony.

lucysmam · 18/01/2024 20:17

Thanks @SewingBees one side of the root has grown curled around the other side (does that make sense?) so they need to break the tooth into pieces to remove it. Having it done at dental hospital & local afaik. I'm a 1:1 at the mo (and breakfast club/dinner time) & don't want to be grumpy with the children if it is painful. I'd need to be covered for breakfast & 1:1 so need to make a decision over the weekend. It's not painful atm & did occur that it might not hurt - but I can't really wait and see 🙄

Had a ct this afternoon - got told off for being late & asking for a wee as soon as I checked in. Except I was actually early. Did not go down well & I told the woman not to talk to me like I'm a small child at school & that actually, I'm a grown up who will go for a wee when I want!

Urgh.

Good to see your mammogram came back normal @TopOfTheCliff 🥳

Diy pedi sounds nice @Tilllly , my toenails are still sporting last summer's polish 🤣

Oncology are not going to be happy with me. I need to change next week's requested f2f appointment to phone call again 🙈 Usually dd1 would have been here for dd2 if she needed a more grown up person but dd1's off to a uni open day & won't be in until late-ish. I don't really want to be over an hour away on the bus, & no-one around if she needs someone 🤷‍♀️ so they're going to have to live with it.

SewingBees · 18/01/2024 20:23

@lucysmam I'm no expert but... I have had a tooth cut out in pieces, and I've had them pulled out. The former is far less painful and can be quicker. However if you have to lie there with your mouth open for a long time you can get quite a sore jaw/face muscles. Just something to bear in mind.

Tilllly · 18/01/2024 20:48

fuck fuck FUCK

Oncologist rang with MRI results

The dot is not an artefact of the scan, it's a tumour, it's grown since the last scan and it's brought a friend with it
I now have metastatic brain cancers

They're referring me to the brain team for gamma knife radiation
Which I will google

And I'm not allowed to drive which has absolutely devastated me.

KentishMama · 18/01/2024 21:06

@Tilllly I am beyond devastated to read your update. Bloody hell! Dot and friend need to go and do one, seriously!

I did a lot of reading up on Gamma Knife when it was unclear if my skull base tumour was a breast cancer met, and when we weren't sure if it is just in the bone or bone and brain. Everything I read was fascinating, and very advanced, and outcomes were pretty damn encouraging. I hope they can come up with a plan for you very, very quickly - now's the time to see how fast you can make the NHS move. And if anyone can send a rocket up their backside, then it's YOU!

Sending un-mumsnet-approved hugs.

tam23 · 18/01/2024 21:35

@Tilllly I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Gamma knife radiation does look like an amazing treatment. Sending unmumsnetty hugs. Xx

lucysmam · 18/01/2024 21:35

Oh fuck @Tilllly! You ok? Apart from "fuck"?

I hope the brain team are speedy in their response to the referral!

Tilllly · 18/01/2024 22:04

I’m devastated about the driving. I can’t even get myself to church - big hill - or to the gym £15 taxi return and no buses that way.

I can’t stand the dependency

I'm clearly weird as the brain cancer bothers me less than losing my licence

Gamma knife is supposed to be the dogs bollocks
My oncologist said to brace myself for the possibility I won't get to my sons wedding

KentishMama · 18/01/2024 22:17

Losing independence (driving) is a very big deal. I would feel the same. Is there anything we can do for you, other than shout FUCK very loudly?

Do you have any links I could read

All I'm finding is scary pictures really

I want facts and details

I'm trying to be a big brave soldier but I'm really really angry
I'd cope with the brain metastases, it's the driving
Even my lovely oncologist said it's not reasonable- but it's the law and obviously I can't risk it but it's pissed me off. God and I are not in a good place

Got any contacts in DVLA? Who do we need to sleep with?

SewingBees · 18/01/2024 22:27

@Tilllly I'm so sorry to hear your news. That's so tough. I've just fought my (shit) oncologist to get a brain scan because I need my mind put at rest that there's nothing there, but the fear that there might be something there keeps me awake at night. I'm keeping everything crossed that you can be treated for this xx

You should'nt have to fight. I know the NHS is struggling but it's a 20m MRI

TopOfTheCliff · 19/01/2024 00:57

Oh @Tilllly that sucks! Power to the gamma knife. The Rage Room is all yours.
How about an ebike which doesn’t need a license? I love mine.

isaxx · 19/01/2024 04:05

@Tilllly so very sorry to hear your update! I do hope gamma knife does the trick and keeps it at bay. I will be interested to hear how that goes as I am possibly facing similar treatment (for a benign meningioma in my case) at some point. I was told I could opt for either surgery (which would not be able to get all of it and long list of risks) or gamma knife. Then breast cancer happened so that has all been put on hold to be reviewed in the summer. Have been in denial about it while dealing with BC,,lymphedema and possible thyroid surgery. Sometimes there is just too much all at once and one needs to focus on one thing at a time.

The ebike suggestion by @TopOfTheCliff sounds like something to consider, assuming the distances you need to travel are not too bad.

And, among all the bad stuff, very pleased to hear some good news about your mammogram @TopOfTheCliff

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 19/01/2024 10:01

@Tilllly oh fuck indeed- cancer is the gift that keeps on giving isn’t it. No words really.

nappybrained · 19/01/2024 12:11

@Tilllly fuck indeed and the FUCK which goes with the add ons like "nodriving". So fucked off for you. Come on NHS and gamma knife surgery ,do your thing
