Burning mouth or acid reflux?

For the last three weeks I have had absolutely awful acid in my throat (or what feels like acid). I have had spells of Gerd in the past but this time feels different in the sense I have no pain/discomfort/loss of appetite or nausea just awful acid burning my throat. Also weird that I don’t have it when I wake up, it gets worse as the day goes on. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but had a bit of a cold prior to this.

I have been to both the local pharmacy and the gp and have started omeprazole but still horrid.

I’m wondering now if this could be another symptom of peri menopause as I am in that age and can feel it creeping up, and also been reading about burning mouth but can’t see how that feels like.

I am taking gaviscon and ordered an Iqoro (waiting for it to arrive) but has anyone tips or hints that I may have missed? Got strepsils and vocalzone lozenges to soothe my throat too.

Ive had gastritis in the past so think apple cider vinegar a no. But at this point I’m willing to try anything (or most things!).

I’m having a similar issue. I’m cutting out certain foods and have raised the head of my bed which has helped a bit. Gargling with warm salt water seems to help my throat a bit & I’ve also just ordered a wedge shaped pillow from Amazon. It’s all a bit miserable really.

Westernstar · 24/12/2023 13:33

@Funderthighs it really is. I have a V pillow too. I’ll try the salt water, that something I haven’t tried yet! Let’s hope things improve for us both. I do suspect with mine age is playing a part.

I agree @Westernstar that age may be playing a part in my case as well as stress. I’m taking Pantoprazole and Gaviscon and am hoping that it will help long term. Good luck!

Have you had COVID recently? Mine took a month to settle down post COVID this year previous years it hasn't.

Westernstar · 24/12/2023 15:20

I did have a bit of a cold and it started straight after. I’ve had my covid booster so not sure it could have been covid, didn’t feel awful enough, just a bad cold. Wondered if the coughing had done something!

I haven’t had Covid since June and definitely don’t have it now.

@Westernstar I know this is an old thread but I searched for "iQoro" and this is the only post that come up! How did you get on with it? Is it worth the money?

Westernstar · 01/08/2024 18:02

@abouttoturn50 I’ve been using it religiously since it arrived. Sometimes only once a day. I think it’s helped, it’s not totally cured it as still get heartburn from time to time but I suspect it’s helping. Reckon it took a good 4/5 months though
