I just feel awful!

Can't put my finger on it. I just feel awful. I am exhausted, yet going to bed at 8pm - 9pm every night. Feel weird but not ill. No pain. Not enjoying anything as every tiny thing feels like such an effort. Don't want to socialise at all. My husband is fed up with me and telling me to go to the doctors, but to say what? I feel rubbish? Would they do blood tests? Could this also be perimenopause? I am 45.

Yes, get those hormones checked. And make sure they check for low thyroid. Mine packed in around peri menopause and I wish I'd got checked sooner instead of suffering in silence. Oh, and taking vitamin D helped a lot too.

Hormone tests are notoriously unreliable, but just feeling low, disinterested in life and below par could be peri-menopause. How long has it been going on for? Do you have any other symptoms of peri? Go to the Menopause Matters or Menopause Doctor websites and look at their lists of symptoms and see how many you have. That will give you some ammunition if you want to see the doctor and ask to start HRT.

It could also be depression.

LauraC1984 · 19/12/2023 10:01

I've had this recently, just feeling shattered and generally a bit rubbish. I went to the doctors and had blood tests which showed my vitamin b12 levels were really low. I've had 6 injections over a fortnight to boost the levels and I'm slowly starting to feel better. I get another injection every 12 weeks now to keep my levels up so definitely worth ringing the doctors, good luck!

Baxdream · 19/12/2023 10:13

Definitely get blood tests. I've been advised by a gp to take berocca previously with similar symptoms.

I've been poorly for 2 weeks, there's so much going around!

Tilllly · 19/12/2023 10:15

Definitely see GP
It could be absolutely anything, almost certainly nothing serious but that needs checking
Don't put it off

My DS2 had similar about 18m ago, GP did blood tests and said his Vit D was one of the lowest they'd ever seen

cheezncrackers · 19/12/2023 10:17

And yes, obviously it could also be something else. But not feeling like you normally would - below par and rubbish - is enough on its own to merit a visit to the doctor and some tests to see what's going on.

Stencilplasttic · 19/12/2023 10:25

Have some blood tests, I'm anaemic and feel like you do x

Puppupandaway · 19/12/2023 10:30

Could it be seasonal affective disorder? Have you felt like this since the clocks went back? Definitely see your gp.

CeciliaMars · 19/12/2023 10:53

Thank you so much for your responses! I don't think it is depression, I'm not sad, just feel physically awful. I already take Vit D and iron, as am anaemic due to adenomysosis. My mum has had thyroid problems, so definitely worth getting that checked out I think.

So did my DS
It could still be low - he had it prescribed at like eleventy billion times stronger*
