Lactulose. Massive amounts of wind. Help!

I’ve been taking lactose for the last few days because I’m on opioid pain killers. It seems to be (just about) doing the trick. 30ml lunchtime ish in a wee glass of strong squash. I’ve never needed a laxative before

but the WIND. Huge amounts and sort of ‘stuck’ too. Not easy farts.

Is there anything that will improve this at all? Should I be taking it at a particular time of day? Is there something else I’d be better using? I’d gathered that lactulose is pretty gentle on the body and I know other laxatives can be vv harsh.

help, please!

I’d always go for dulcoease (not dulcolax!) over lactulose. Far better imo & I have cocodamol on prescription so take it fairly regularly.
Dulcoease in the evening generally works by morning for me but I do eat kiwis and dates every day too -both very good for constipation- and have chia seeds.

If you are intolerant to lactose or galactose, lactulose can be horrific. I remember sobbing on the toilet drinking sips of warm water and patting my chest to get the wind to come up and burping it out for hours and that was almost 15 years ago now! It did nothing for the co-codamol constipation for me.

See if you can be prescribed something else because this will only get worse (I'd recommend Fybogel but I can't remember if it's safe with opioids or not, I have a feeling it isn't).

I had the same experience whilst taking this due to pregnancy constipation. I decided I was better off with the constipation!
