my daughter is two and a half years old and every time i wash her she doesn't let me touch her in the intimate area. she starts crying and says it hurts. I wash her twice a day but sometimes the vaginal area looks red. I don't know why she feels pain there. she can't explain as she is only 2 and she doesn't talk that much yet.it doesn't happen every day that she says it hurts but often it does. I wonder should I take her to see the doctor? what could it be? any advice?

Could it be thrush?

CarGirl · 14/03/2008 22:15

it could be thrush or an infection.

My dd always says it tickles it is very sensitive at this age, perhaps that is what she means. The redness can be due to bubble baths etc, the perfume in them can irritate. I'd take her to the dr just to be on the safe side as she may ahve a touch of thrush.

Urinary tract infection

my dd (4) hs the same, doctor said it was thrush and prescribed canesten, but no better so too her back and she was given anti-bs for a bacterial infection.

sadly, the anti-bs appear to have caused thrush now so we are back to canesten and hope that it clears up.

defo a doctors job for your dd though i think.

My DD gets the odd bit of redness, I put some sudocrem on, usually clears up no problem. She doesn't like getting her peepee cleaned and when I try to she says "peepee is closed, mummy" - charming!

Meant to say DD is 3, I put it down to her not drying herself properly at nursery.

carnival you just made me laugh so much.peepee closed . it sounds familiar with the sudocrem. I wash her and put the cream and then the next day is fine, but after a day or two at the nursery she comes home and says it hurts. some evenings she lets me wash no problem but sometimes she doesn't. that's why I don't know what to do.
