There seem to be quite a few of us now so I thought we might like a place where we can congregate to laugh, cry, share, compare notes and give each other a bit of support.

hi girls - just checking in!

Good luck with the surgery on Monday TMH

Love to all
T xx

pigleto · 21/07/2008 00:06

Good luck with your surgery TMH, hope it all goes well. My dcs were at Harlow Carr today, they brought me back some lovely cakes from Bettys.

I am suffering a bit here on the taxotere. I hurt everywhere and I can't sleep. Well they say it is a very powerful and effective drug, so I hope it is doing it's job.

Triplets, I hope your dh feels better soon. It is not much fun to be spending time sick in bed when you want to make the most of every second with your family.

Jas · 21/07/2008 23:17

Sorry to crash, but thought you might like to know Mr TheMadHouse posted here

huffpuff · 22/07/2008 20:34

hi all - hope you are all managing to enjoy the sunshine. Been in hospital since Saturday night after fainting at home (where i was alone with 2 and 5 yr olds). 5yr old dd got me pillow and blanket and got endeavour award at school today - proud mummy!!!

Anyway, had temp of 38.4 and suspected UTI. Had blast of IV antibiotics. Pulse now up but they let me home today thank god.

Feel so tired and lethargic but hoping the holidays are fun.

4th lot of chemo 4th august - got scan before then though.

JRocks · 22/07/2008 21:40

Aw huffpuff how brave and clever of your DD! I hope you are on the mend from the infection, and the rest of the holidays stay relatively trouble free

Best wishes for your scan.

pigleto · 22/07/2008 21:48

sorry you keeled over huffpuff, well done mini huffpuff

Glad your op went well TMH.

TheMadHouse · 23/07/2008 02:28

Well done to mini huffpuff. I bet you were so proud. I hope you are OK, it must have been really scarry

Pigleto I am focussed on the pain being worth it, as I am sure you are too. Hope you are getting some sleep

I am having a kind of high at the moment, that I have done something positive to stay with my family and fight this dreaded disease. Once I have finnished the ops I will have to have scans for primary peritoneal cancer and keep checking my new breats, but I am sure it will be worth it.

I am fighting this and I am going to be around for lots of nativitys to come. Although I would be lying to say I am not sore . I think that it is the control freak in me coming out

lalaa · 24/07/2008 12:14

keep taking the painkillers tmh! Tramadol was my drug of choice.....

lalaa · 24/07/2008 12:16

And, re the nativitys (nativities?), my dd is just finishing reception, and i've been to every church service this year because fighting to be around for those things was one of the things I focussed on too. i've been near to tears so many times when dd hasn't been doing anything in particular, but just because i made it! (other mums must have thought i was barmy....)

BlaDeBla · 25/07/2008 11:30

I hope you are bearing up TMH, and the pain is subsiding. I thought when they talked about pain that they meant childbirth pain, so I wasn't quite sure how much morphine to take. I learned pretty quickly and it wasn't long till the room started spinning a bit and all the clocks stopped....

I've got my next mammogram in a couple of weeks. I am not really looking forward to it much. Also gastro appt, which involves a bit of blood-sucking.

TheMadHouse · 25/07/2008 18:24

Tummy pain is fine and I am healing well - but I have a mad raging throat infection. Temp of 40.1 and really feeling iot. Doc has been out and I am on AntiBs. Hope to feel better after a good nights kip

pigleto · 25/07/2008 21:52

The anti biotics usually work pretty fast so I hope you will be feeling better soon. You must be feeling good to have made such a positive step forward.

I am popping tramadol like a junkie, my oncologist said he was happy that I was getting so many side effects because it meant the drugs must be working. The man is a sadist.

My dh just bought me a chillow pillow to help with the hot flushes, I am going to try it tonight to see how it goes. As romantic gestures go I would perhaps have preferred diamonds but it was thoughtful of him even if it does remind me of my new menopausal status.

BlaDeBla · 28/07/2008 13:36

Aww, pigleto!

I burned my hand in the oven on Friday and it bloody well hurts. I've been using lots of spray-on plaster which is sticky till it dries. I don't know if it works, but hey, maybe. It's a bugger being so hot, as it makes the hand swell, so it's harder with the burn to wear my lovely beige glove

Hope everyone's enjoying the hot weather!

huffpuff · 28/07/2008 20:47

hi all - hope you are all well.

Got my scan and mammogram tomorrow to see how much the tumor has shrunk. Also having an MRI scan to help the dept out as they can't get enough volunteers to act as guinea pigs!

I am now on 4 lots of anti biotics - for gum disease, gnat bite (x 2) and UTI. This for someone who was scared to start taking anti-depressants this time last year!!!

Got lots of energy this week but i know what's coming next week - round 4! But then i''ve just got 2 more to go. I cannot believe how some people sail through chemo.............

anyway, hugs to you all and hope you are managing to enjoy the sun!

TheMadHouse · 29/07/2008 13:43

Huffpuff - hope your scans have gone well and fingures scross re the shrinkage (if that even is a word).

Pigleto - a chillow sounds just like what I need with my forced menopausal state.

Bla - I thought you wernt supposed to cover a burn

It is not bacterial, but viral, DH and DS1 are unwell too, but as DH had last week off to "look after" me, he has had to go back to work.

Good news is the wounds are great and no pain there, so I am using my pain meds for my throat

lalaa · 30/07/2008 17:51

Had my 3 year mammogram and ultrasound today. All clear! Hoorah!

How is everyone today?

huffpuff · 30/07/2008 21:04

thats good news Lala - hugs to you!!

Found out today that i'm gonna have my last 3 cycles of chemo and then they/we will decide what surgery i will have in mid October - i get a month off after my last chemo before surgery!

They are happy that the tumor is shrinking steadily. Still 80% chance of a mastectomy but we will see.

hugs to you all

BlaDeBla · 30/07/2008 21:20

Fantastic news lalaa! Yippee. That's great that the chemo is doing its job huffpuff. I was just thinking about this thread and thinking what a hell of a bruising everyone here has taken and is taking.

I've got my boob crushing at the end of next week. Nearly a year since diagnosis.

I still can't decide whether or not to have another op on my new boob to get rid of some of the plasticky lumps. The doc at the hospital here said that it was what it looked like in a bra rather than what it looked like naked... If so, what the hell's the point in nipple tattoos?

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/07/2008 21:34

hooray lalaa !!!!!!!

TheMadHouse · 30/07/2008 21:38

Way to go Lala - positive news. I am thrilled for you no in a non sarcastic way

pigleto · 03/08/2008 17:15

lalaa congratulations! I really hope I get to where you are.

I have just had a lovely week in Northumberland yomping round castles in the mist with a group of very small yelling knights and shrieking princesses. We went with my brother and his hoard of children plus my two. We all had a ball.

Getting poisoned again on friday. poo.

Bladebla, good luck with your scan.

huffpuff · 03/08/2008 22:00

hi all

Cycle 4 tomorrow - hope i don't end up in hospital this time!

had mammogram on Tuesday and they are happy that the cancer is "responding well to the chemo" so at least this crap is for something.

only 2 more to go after tomorrow and then surgery.

TheMadHouse · 04/08/2008 19:37

Hi Huffpuff that is great news

Pigleto - we are off to Northumberland August Bank holiday (in a tent) to do the same

huffpuff · 04/08/2008 20:19

had a nightmare of a chemo session today! Nurses had about as much bedside manner as a wet fish, was an hour and a bit late starting, the herceptin started to leak, i had to ask for my own meds as the nurse had forgotten etc etc etc.......

my question is - the nurse didnt seem too concerned that some of the herceptin had leaked and yet they always make sure every single drop is squeezed through normally - should i check with someone about this? Bit concerned i havent had the correct dose

JRocks · 04/08/2008 21:41

Are you able to speak to your consultant? My mum had to speak to hers when some of the chemo leaked and caused a burn on her arm. Or maybe your breast care nurse would be able to tell you what you should do? Hope you get some answers, take care
