Womb Biopsy

Hi I am 5 years into the menopause on femostan conti 1/5mg. I have had some post menopausal bleeding, not a lot just a little. I had a scan and my womb lining is on the border of what is acceptable. I have to go for a Gyne appointment and womb biopsy. This clinic does not offer any pain relief they said see how you go and if you can't manage we will take it from there. I am very nervous as I couldn't have a coil fitted after my children were born. Please can anyone give me some reassurance. I am dreading it. I plan to take painkillers beforehand. Thank you.

I had a ‘surprise’ biopsy once.
Female gynae, speculum in and was just having a look and taking swabs when she then said she was going to take a biopsy. She described it as going to be like a little pinch. It was tbf. It was the briefest of seconds, kind of like if you were pinching pliers together but got a bit of your palm caught in the grips as you squeezed together, then no lingering pain. Nothing like having a coil fitted though so don’t panic too much.

Thank you, that is making me feel better.

It’s crampy, like period pain, you’ll need to squeeze a hand!

I’ve had it done twice in clinic. It’s not great but it’s over very quickly. They might want to take a couple of samples. Take some painkillers before you go (I assume that’s allowed). Bring a sanitary pad the first time they gave me one, the second not).

Ive had 2 and a Hysterscopy with no pain relief apart from Panadol and they were fine, cramps afterwards but overall fine.

That's encouraging ladies, thank you. It does help to hear positive experiences. I am not great with pain, and tend to panic. I've paracetamol, ibuprofen, and 5mg of diazepam to take before so fingers crossed.
