Low ferritin

Superstar96 · 13/12/2023 14:35

I have had some symptoms of low iron, breathless/heart palpitations/tingling in extremities etc etc. Had bloods which have revealed my ferritin is 67 and been started on iron for this. My question is, is this classed as a low reading? As from google alone it states this is within healthy range. Could I be experiencing symptoms from a level of 67?

They started you on iron at 67!! Outstanding.
Mine stopped my repeat prescription when I got to 22, despite nice guidelines saying under 30 should be treated.
Are you absolutely sure that’s the ferritin level and do you know the lab reference range?
My symptoms don’t resolve until I get above 50 but many women would feel better higher.
Have you also had b12/folate, thyroid function and vitamin D tested do you know?
You should be able to see on the NHS app if you are in England.

Mine is 27 and ignored. Been 19 before and ignored. I have to get iron myself and self treat.

Mine is 20 and ignored. I feel like death but doctor's say iron is not necessary b cause the iron in my blood is fine..

Ignore them and go and ask the pharmacist to buy iron tablets. You can buy them over the counter cheaper than a prescription charge. I was given iron tablets when my ferritin was at 12, I had a repeat blood test and my level was I think 38, over the 'normal' limit, so the Dr was happy. I went and got some more iron to carry on taking for another 3 months. I want my iron levels to improve more than just the bare minimum personally thanks Doc!

Mine is 6. I’m also treating myself, off to argue for a repeat blood test in two weeks’ time.
If hb is fine they don’t seem to care. Even though i have palpitations, my hair is falling out and my legs are restless.

Yup, unless you’re anaemic they don’t care. Mental not to treat it before you end up anaemic!
