Chalazion

I have had this chalazion since may and it’s not going away. My eye doctor said they can’t refer me as it hasn’t been a year and no one in my town privately removes these ): the closest is 2 hours away and would cost at least a 1000. I’ve tried heat compress and I’ve tried massaging it and I’ve tried putting out the eyelash that might have caused the infection but I can’t seem to find it
any help would be really appreciated 🤍

Ouch! Been there. Have they offered you drops? It was suggested to be to massage downwards to try and pop it.

@HalLOUWeen nooo but they did give me an antibiotic cream but it didn’t do anything sadly): was yours there long before it popped? x

Only a few weeks thankfully but I think i was lucky. Mine took over my whole face, my phone wouldn’t open

Buy eye cream to use all the time. Hot compress at least 4 times a day as hot as you can bear, massage eye with the compress. As compress cools put it back into extremely hot water and keep repeating for 5 to 10 mins. It’s a faff but After a few days it started leaking gunk out. I just kept doing it.
if I let my eyes get to dry it start again so now use eye gel all the time.

Like previous posters l used a very hot compress as many times a day as l could. I also used otc infected eye drops. I massaged the eyelid in a squeezing motion downwards towards the edge of the lid and after a few days the fluid started to discharge.

I have one of these at the moment. I am doing the compress routine and getting some eyedrops
for infected eyes.

Should i leave off wearing my contacts and make-up?

TIA

I had something similar at the start of lockdowns and I think it was because I wasn't wearing mascara for work everyday so therefore wasn't cleansing my eyes every day!

It was unbelievably annoying. I used hot compresses, as per other posters, although the two I had were smaller. You do need to be careful not to spread the infection though. I would completely avoid contacts and make-up whilst it sorts itself out, if poss.

Thank you. How long did you have yours?

Justwingingit2005 · 08/04/2024 17:44

My son had one.
Did warm compresses last, he took antibiotics. Nothing shifted it.

Was removed surgically after a 4 yr wait.

I had this and found a video saying to boil eggs and use them (shell on) as a hot compress wrapped in a warm damp flannel as hot as you can bear and keep it there for 20 mins three times a day. Mine went within two days. The hot compresses I'd used before were luke warm and I guess weren't liquefying it enough (guessing, am no eye doctor!)

I had two, over the course of a couple of months, and each time they took about two weeks to go fully I think.

Thank you all. So, between two days and four years.

Just logged in to comment. I had a huge chalazion cyst and I found the hot compresses irritated my (already irritated) eye. The game changer for me was steaming my eyelid! I put boiling water into a coffee cup and put my eye (while closed) over the top of the cup. I then massaged the cyst (downwards for mine because it was on my upper eyelid). Went after 2 days! Good luck, everyone.
