Hello ladies

I notice that a few other mums are taking mefenamic acid, i took it this month and the effects were amazing, i took it with meals three times a day for three days, then i didn't need to take it anymore.
After having my second child i've suffered with terrible period pains, yuk.

Does anyone have info on this drug, ie: is it actaully doing me a horrendous amount of damage by taking it?

I did wonder about trying homeopathy or even accupuncture for my period pains instead.
Anyone have any info?

Charlie

Charliepw - if it works try not to worry. I take it, I took it for a few years as a teenager and now I am back on it.

My only advice is make sure you do always take it with meals, as otherwise it can cause stomach lining irritation

Mefenamic acid is pretty harmless as long as you've never had a stomach ulcer or have an allergy to the drug or severe asthma. It is from the same family of drugs as Ibuprofen.

You won't come to much harm only taking it when you need it and not overstating the recommended dose....and if it works for those period pains, then great!

I would go all out to establish the true cause of the period pains as these can be caused in some cases by endometriosis.

You may want to ask your GP for a referral to a gynae for further evaluation. Mefanemic acid is often given to women who also have endometriosis.

Thanks for your messages, i guess the answer is to take it if it works, but yes try to get referred in case it is anything else.
