Basically that is it.

He got a cough and high temperature in the first week of february, our gp diagnosed a chest infection and got him Amoxicillin. This kicked in, we flew to Gran Canaria to visit my sister, after being on the medicin for one week where his cough wasnt really improving much, though his temperature was coming down, he got a new stronger broad spectrum antibiotics (spanish name) and a cough mixture. This seemed to work, but two days after coming back to London he was coughing again. It was so bad he was coughing so much he was vomiting. Not much in terms of temperature, 37,4, etc.

But on monday his temperature rose to 38.5, so went to see the gp. He was concerned that he already had taken two courses of antibiotics and he was still coughing. And the cough mixture is one normally given for Emphysema. He said, if he is still coughing in a week, he needs a chest x-ray.

Well, it is 5 days, so nearly a week, he is still coughing, and his temperature has jumped up to 38.5 again this morning.

I think I may have to take him back to the doctors?
After 5 days on antibiotics, there should be some improvement?

(It is my sons 6th birthday party today, have hired a hall, and have 45 children coming, I really could do without this today.
But of course, my sons health comes before his brothers party, and who cares if not all the cupcakes are decorated in the whole scheme of things. sob)

How is he in himself Quint? Thats the big question really-

Coughs can hang around for weeks after an illness, but if he is unwell you really do need to take him back cos the anti biotics obviously arent doing the job.

With the temps I would be worried about a pneumonia brewing (my DS has had this twice), and would ask for a chest x -ray.

Hope he gets better soon!

Yes, take him back to the doctors. Was he given a nebuliser?

He already has both the brown and the blue inhaler, but the doctor said he could not hear anything on his lungs, and this did not sound like asthma.

I don't mean to imply he has asthma, but when my dds have had nasty coughs, they've been given temporary nebulisers to help with their breathing. I was wondering if this was standard treatment in the UK (I'm in belgium)
