Shingles?

My nurse practitioner suggested I may have the start of shingles today. (I did an online consultation in case it was a urine infection) but he said maybe shingles. So the pain is bothering me enough to check which is unusual for me I can't remember the last time I contacted the Gp, it feels like it's throbbing above my hip.

My question is how long after pain starting did people see a rash if it was shingles?

Pain and rash coincided for me

I noticed the rash because my side was hurting so much. It was bloody agony.

I only had one spot where the pain started, for 4 or 5 days. Pain worsened, doctor diagnosed, rash & pain expanded. Have they prescribed an antiviral?
Rest. It's essential.

It was a couple of days for me, maybe 3. I thought I'd done something really bad to my back and even put a different chair in the living room as I thought it was the new sofa!

Thank you! I have to email back when the rash appears (he seemed convinced it would)
The pain is unpleasant in one area and my usual evening walk tonight was uncomfortable. It's been like this for about two days. I have a headache this evening but that could just be a Monday thing Wink

I think it took my rash 4 or 5 days to appear altho the rash was only a few spots compared to the pain. Just above my hip in a band round one side. Horrible.

I was diagnosed with shingles today (rash is on my head and neck)
I started getting a stabbing pain in my head 24 Nov (thurs)
Saw GP on Monday 27 Nov - he thought it was musculoskeletal
Chiropractor Thursday 30th
I noticed a couple of spots Saturday 2 Dec (so 9 days after onset of pain) - I didn't connect the spots and the pain at first, I thought they were insect bites (as did my hairdresser)
also had a temperature at the weekend at some point.
spots/rash getting worse today - I googled and realised probably shingles
Saw another GP this afternoon - she confirmed it's shingles & prescribed aciclovir

About three days after the first twinge, I thought it was a pulled muscle at first, then the pain really got going and the rash came out. Got antivirals co codemal, and amitriptyline from docs, calamine lotion and piriton from chemist.

after lots of googling while not able to get to sleep:
around 3 days seems more common than my 9
colloidal oats (baths and creams) seem to be recommended - Aveeno products are based on this, currently on offer at Boots

Virasoothe chicken pox gel is the best thing I found for shingles rash.

They do one in a spray bottle so you don't even have to touch the rash to apply it!

My teenager has just been diagnosed with it - in the middle of their mock GCSEs! They had a persistent headache since Monday that was getting worse rather than better, and woke up witth a rash on one side of their forehead today. DH and I immediately worried it could be menigitis but doc said they would have been far more ill by now if so, and diagnosed shingles.
