Hi. I had a big operation 2 weeks ago. I had blood thinners (apixiban) for 1 week and support stockings. I then wore the stockings just at night for the 2nd week, as advised. So, no more blood thinners for the past week and no more stockings from tonight.
I've now started my period, a week early 🤨 but it is very, very heavy. I have a prescription for tranexamic acid, as I'm prone to heavy periods.
My question is, am I OK to take tranexamic acid given the above information? Or am I at increased risk of dvt?
No chance of speaking to the consultant's secretary until tomorrow to ask so I'm hoping a doctor or pharmacist here can advise. Tranexamic acid is my only chance of not having to get up hourly tonight 😑
