Is it a cold?

I've woke.up this morning with the most horrendous all over body aches and sore chest, cough, with green mucus. No other cold symptoms. I feel terrible though as hurts to move at all. DH has been sick all weekemd with similar symptoms. He has to go to work on the late shift. I've an 18 month old and I have no idea how I will get through this. I have quite severe health anxiety and pure O so this is the worst situation for me. Is it just a cold or virus? Taken 2 of each paracetamol and ibruprofen. My stupid brain is telling me I'll get sepsis and die.

A cold is a virus. Not sure what you're asking as nobody can actually tell you what you have.

Tilllly · 04/12/2023 09:07

I'd tell you to take a deep breath, but it sounds like you can't. Now come on, calm down. You know there's a load of viruses around at this time of year.

You've done the right thing with paracetamol and ibuprofen, take two paracetamol every six hours and two ibuprofen every eight hours, and keep it up.
Drink lots and lots of water - I mean lots of it, fill your water bottle and just keep drinking it all day. And rest

Don't worry if you're not hungry, but try and eat some fruit or soup or something easy like that. I'll make sure you let a little fresh air come through the house

You will feel a lot better in a couple of days

Not to hijack your thread, but I am currently in bed having been in hospital with suspected sepsis (I'm having chemo) and whilst I'm no doctor or an expert, you sound like you've just got a really bad cold

ForevermoreAnxious · 04/12/2023 09:07

I meant like does it sound like a common cold virus or could it be more sinister.

There is nothing in the symptoms you have described that would sound more sinister than a virus

Give yourself a stern talking to because this anxiety will make you feel worse

Drink fluids, Take your tablets snuggle up on the sofa and watch CBeebies. This will pass

A cold is a virus. Unless you're very immunocompromised you're not going to die of a cold. You probably have a fever causing the aches - hopefully the drugs will kick in and you'll feel better soon.

Why hasn't your DH stayed at home to look after the baby, if you feel so unwell?

Get Cbeebies on (all day is fine), and just lie in the sofa and let your child watch TV and potter around while you feel rough. If you feel better make yourselves food and drink to grab when you feel worse again. You just have to through it.

Could be either. But the likelihood is you have a common cold or some other cold like or flu like illness. And health anxiety.

DH is still unwell himself. He's just started a new job last week after a period of redundancy so he's worri d ot won't look good if he doesn't go and he's a First line manager so he said they are relying on him.

I understand what it means to have a health anxiety, I have a dull ache down my leg, my mind is telling me I'm going to have a heart attack, I inhale and exhale three times before I go to sleep. If we continue to listen to our minds, we will actually die. I'm telling you, if this is a virus, take the right medicine, or even a cold, if it lasts more than two weeks, you should really go to the doctor.

coffeeisthebest · 04/12/2023 09:51

I am just at the end of a similar virus OP. I felt absolutely shocking, really bad, and have got through it by having really early nights, drinking lots of fluids, taking paracetamol, eating a little bit when I fancied it as I haven't had much appetite. I think it's important to remember that when we feel run down it can be worrying as we don't really know what's going on and your mind is trying to make sense of it by jumping to the worst case, concrete scenario. Try and breathe and remind yourself you are ill, you know how to look after yourself, you will seek medical help if you need it if things get worse, but for right now you have cbeebies, drinks, and your child and you are ok. Take care and hope it passes on through soon.

See the 'brutal cold' thread...some comfort in not being alone in it. I'm on week bloody 4 of this now...back to the Drs later as I'm actually getting worse. Dh is also now down with it. It's a shocker. But a lot of people seem to have it. The lady in Boots said they'd sold out of colds and flu once already and it seems to be taking people weeks to shift it.
