Anyone know what causes these? It's like a tension all around my head

Is it outside or every time you walk. Outside maybe the cold air, sinuses, blood pressure.

cleverusernamehere · 30/11/2023 09:23

No. It's before I even get out of bed, just lie here with a band of pain around my skull

Bad positioning when you're in bed, you might need to try different pillows.

Thighdentitycrisis · 30/11/2023 09:24

You might be clenching or grinding your teeth, look up bruxism for clues

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2023 09:26

Dehydration for me, and occasionally my neck gets cricked which always gives me a headache.

It's especially bad if I've slept in a room that's too warm. I keep a drink by the bed and have trained myself to have a bit whenever I wake up.

So drink and maybe play about with your pillows to see if that helps.

CrunchyCarrot · 30/11/2023 09:27

Sleeping position - does it get better once you are up?

I've awoken with a bad headache from the wrong pillow.

Dehydration?

LittleRedDots · 30/11/2023 09:28

Do you smoke or use nicotine products?

SpottyCrumpet · 30/11/2023 09:32

Could be your neck, but for me it’s sinuses. Seems to flare up in winter for me, I’m on steroid spray 2x per day to keep it at bay.

cleverusernamehere · 30/11/2023 10:06

Non smoker
I sleep on side/tummy
Have a couple of pillows
Could be bruxism :
ugh it's so debilitating - makes me grumpy for rest of day. 😔
Thank you for replies

You might need fewer pillows. Or are you clenching or grinding your teeth in the night?

If it's just after sleeping longer than usual it can be withdrawal from stress hormones (honestly!)

muddyford · 30/11/2023 10:48

I get a headache if the windows are closed.

cremantsupernova · 30/11/2023 11:03

Withdrawal from stress hormones? @vikinglady - can you expain more?

Isheabastard · 30/11/2023 11:35

This will sound crazy but I can’t think of anything else that changed.

I regularly woke with a headache for years and years. Changed pillows, sleep app, cool room, even went to the doctor, my dentist used to do a thing where he would relax the tight muscles of my jaw. The headaches often went during the morning, but some days they hung around.

Then my husband who snores started sleeping in the guest room. No more morning headaches. I wonder if it was caused by my frequent waking to turn him over.

We are now separated, I’m in a different bed, still no morning headaches.
Im post menopausal, so it could be hormones, but I started the headaches in my forties, and I don’t remember headaches when I was night nursing my baby.

Hi OP I get these and my doc has booked me in for an MRI next week. A lot of people get headaches on waking but could also be a sign of something else. I've been given some meds to take which have worked so I don't think it's anything serious. Maybe goto doc to get checked out.

ScaredSceptic · 01/12/2023 02:05

Can be a sign of sleep apnea

worldwidetravel2017 · 01/12/2023 09:03

Dehydration
Stress
Anxiety
Over heating
Diabeties?
