Iron

My iron levels were 7, six months ago and I was prescribed iron tablets. Recently had another blood test and they are 25 but doctor wants me to take iron tablets for another six months.

I haven't had any tablets whilst waiting to be retested and have been feeling awful. What symptoms should I expect at this iron level?

I'm not sure if symptoms I'm experiencing are due to low iron or peri menopause and I'm due to have HRT next week, I'm 44.

Thanks

I've had low iron off and on since my first pregnancy 4 years ago. When I needed the tablets but wasn't on them I felt awful - tired, chest pains. Went on the tablets 3 a day for 6 months and felt a million times better. It was cyanocobalamin I was prescribed

I'm waking up with my heart racing early hours like 4am, feels like anxiety and that feeling stays all day. Today I've had a headache and just generally struggle to function with brain fog. But it's so similar to peri menopause symptoms I'm not sure which it is.

I used to get palpitations too, all signs are so similar to anxiety which I suffer with so I get what you mean about not knowing if it's peri or iron. I would see how you get on with the tablets and see if it improves

Ferritin should be over 45 to be adequate, preferably closer to 100 so stay on the tablets.
